Tuckers Return

I hope Tucker has been watching the last few games and has seen how his team is defending and spreading the ball. I've watched too many times where Tucker just gives up the open shot/layup because he doesn't think he can get there. He just seems to be a shoot first, play defense in spurts type of player that will not help this team right now.

That said, he is an upgrade from Bawinkle and probably Lick Jr(even though I like Lick Jr's effort on the defensive end)

Right, getting someone back on the team that was averaging almost 12 pts/game is definitely going to be a problem. I'm pretty sure he's going to have to earn his playing time back, and will probably be 5-10 minutes a game at first. I guess I'm in the minority of being excited for him to be back.

I know that the hawks need some depth... however, I am not sure that I want Tucker back. He has a tendency to just heave 3's and not protect the ball very well. He also has a tendency to be extremely lazy on the defensive end. I hope that he can come back and give the same effort the rest of the guys have shown these past two weeks... but I am worried that his return will hurt the team. Any thoughts?

Sounds like you are talking about Bawinkle. I'm fine with Tucker coming back and taking the minutes of DB and little Lick.

After thinking about this some more.. I think I second this. At least for the rest of the season. I don't think the program can handle another Tucker let down. I would rather continue to make strides with players who are all doing the right thing, than go let Tucker in for a while, make more strides, than have to take a few steps back if he screws up again. I don't know that I agree with the three strikes rule in this situation. I bet Pierre Pierce is cheering for another mess up so that he is not the golden boy of screwups anymore.

First of all, let's not even compare Pierce to Tucker. Tucker made the mistake of getting drunk, happens to lots of college kids, he did not rape or attempt to rape anybody.

Also, Tucker is not a senior, he's a sophomore. He's going to be here for two and a half years more. We might as well get him back and playing as soon as possible. I think watching the team succeed without him will make Tucker work even harder to get back on the court and be part of success. Right now we have arguably the worst bench of any major conference team, let's not pretend like adding a player like Tucker won't help.

When he returns I do hope that it is not at the expense of May's minutes. I would play Tucker 5 minutes a game at point and maybe five minutes a game at the wing to start. Lick and Bawinkle can each play 2-3 minutes and with that rotation Cully, Gatens and May can have 5-7 minutes of rest each.

If Tucker plays better and earns his way back than his minutes could go up.

I have the fear many posters do about reverting back to increased 3 point shots without touches for Fuller.

I'm glad that Tucker is getting a chance to come back. Hopefully he will help the team. As said earlier I believe that he will probably start taking small minutes and continue to get more depending on production. I don't think he will screw up chemistry with the team. Earlier in the year he was one of our few scoring options with Fuller having a bad ankle. I do hope that his defense picks up and he is selective with his long range shots. He is a much better option off the bench then a couple other players we have right now.

I don't know that I would call him a "scoring option", all he did was heave three's. The only game I was happy with his play was the Drake game. The other games I really got irritated watching him play. If his effort continues to be the same.. I have a huge problem with him taking Lil' Lick's minutes... if his effort is equal to or better than Lil' Lick... than I am all for it. I have been inspired with the effort of Lil' Lick and him moving the ball around (probably because if he gets trapped he is screwed lol). I will say Tucker is definitely more talented, but I want a group of fighters out on the court giving their all.

It will be interesting to see how Tucker responds. I have faith that TLick will do what is best for the team in regards to the return of Tucker, and I hope that Anthony takes advantage of his final opportunity.

Lickliter just said on teleconference that Tucker will not play against Ohio State. Rest of season undecided. Per HawkeyeReport twitter
