Tubby could cripple Iowa

I do not know if this has been mentioned before, but if Tubby goes to Auborn then that would cause huge damage to our search. Minnesota's job would become a lot more attractive to a coach on the move than Iowa's. I hope that something is already in the works and we are just waiting for a team to lose before it becomes official.

I'd say "cripple" is a pretty strong word for this scenario...sure, it would suck.

I think that would be a great fit for Ben Jacobsen knowing he has recruiting ties in the Minny area. It might trun out to be a good thing.

Yes, God forbid we have a fan base who cares. Unlike Minnesota where they only care about professional sports.

Only if you really believe Iowa is in the hunt for the biggest name candidates out there, which I don't

Minnesota is the only D1 program in a larger state with a better talent pool and with an intimidating arena to play in. Right now we are the fourth best bb program in our own state, with not a lot of home grown D1 talent and have a horrible arena atmoshpere. I would say that the only two jobs worse right now in the Big Ten our Penn St. and Northwestern. We need to move before other jobs come open.

I'm not saying it's bad for the fan base to care. But we've run off Lute, Raveling, Mr. Davis, Alford, and now Lickliter. Each time saying we wanted to get to "the next level". We dropped a peg or two each time.

We have unrealistic expectations, I'm sorry, but we do. We are not an elite program, and haven't been for quite a long time. We need to stop thinking we are. Or at least, stop running off coaches who don't meet that expectation. Lickliter and Alford were warranted, but Davis and Olson.....that was just stupid.

Fans don't run off coaches unless Athletic Directors let them. Lute wasn't going to stay here forever. Raveling wasn't comfortable here. Nothing to do with the fans. Mr. Davis had 13 years and was the all-time winning coach. Alford had 1 NCAA win in 8 seasons and the Pierce fiasco. And Lickliter was a historic failure. How is that the fans fault? I'm tired of hearing this excuse.

The only problem I see with the fans is that we did run Davis out of town because we wanted "the next level", but that is the only time. Lute Olson mentioned in his book that people saying the fans ran him out if false. He said he made that move for his family because they were happier out west in warmer weather. (Snow on Mar. 20, can't say I blame him)

And what were the fans saying just a couple weeks ago about how if Lickliter were still here next year, then Barta would be following him out the door? Pardon Barta for feeling the heat from fans, too.

And whether it's an "excuse" in your eyes or not, it is becoming the perception. And perception is reality when it comes to things like this.

Jon, you had Jamie Dixon and Scott Drew (two of the hottest names out there right now) in Blue for the Hawkeyes.

Then you said that they were included in the 3 most likely names in your opinion... are you suggesting that these are not the biggest names out there or that neither Dixon nor Drew is realistic for Iowa?

FWIW, I never saw Dixon as a realistic candidate, but I think Drew is a very real candidate right now.

Check out Bearsillustrated and Pantherlair sites. Zero talk of Drew or Dixon leaving for Iowa or any other jobs. If Iowa even has a remote chance at either of these guys it must be a well kept secret. There was more talk on Tenn. boards about Pearl.

It won't cripple Iowa at all. I'm probably in the minority, but I'm pulling for Forbes to get the job over dixon/drew etc. Iowa is THE destination job for him, he can recruit, and he runs the system we all grew up with and love. If dixon or drew were to land at Iowa, i'm sure they would eventually move on to a "better" job if they were to have success at Iowa.
