Trump supporters, how do you square this?

PC Hawk:

I appreciate that you want change, but standing by and letting Dear Leader do things that are unconstitutional is not okay with many of us. Congress does appropriations. It's how our government works, in accordance with our supreme legal document (the Constitution).

Following court orders is pretty basic. Comply with the Judicial folks. It's how checks and balances actually work. If you're for ignoring both issues, then you don't want a democracy, pure and simple.

The government does work on a lot of levels. Life saving treatments come from research which is funded by the federal government. Our ability to track and trend diseases that are a risk to our population comes form the infrastructure, smart people, and data provided by government agencies. The list goes on and on.

I'm afraid that some of you really don't have a grasp on what might happen here.

My brother is likely losing his primary source of income and will have to move. My sister wants to retire early from the Iowa Dept of Education. Lots of things are happening that were nearly unimaginable years ago.

But, since identity politics is a team sport, I guess your team is winning. So, there's that.

When Iowa's education system gets worse and worse (and it is), the water becomes more polluted with less regulation (which it will), and poor people cannot access health care, you can just be proud that your dear leader owned the libs, I guess!

Do you think corporations, super wealthy people, and their ilk give one shit about middle class and poor people from Iowa? LOLOL.

Oh, and that bridge you drive over, which is checked by government folks, will fall one day. Just hope you're not driving on it.

I'm not long for this moribund site, and it sounds like this site may or may not exist in the future. It's been fun.

You say all of this like what the government was doing before Trump was working. Do you even factor in the part where everything the government touches sucks and costs 10 times more than it should? Is that even part of your equation before slamming people who want change?
Do you know how health insurance works? Do you think you're getting your money's worth from them? Those publicly traded insurance companies work like hell to deny benefits, and are quite profitable. I assume you have no problem just handing money to them?

PC Hawk, on a personal note, I appreciate that you want good things, and I appreciate your zeal to root out government corruption.

I just would like to point out that many of us still want a functioning democracy at the end of this.

Health insurance is brutally bad. Insurance is just a middle man and it's insane the amount of money that goes to the middle man here. It's a shitty system where in order to pay medial expenses we have to pay both medical expenses and insurance companies.

What if what's being done is unconstitutional? I suppose that doesn't matter to you.

BTW I seriously doubt that the deficit will decrease. But it's red meat for the maga base, so there you go.

Decreasing taxes on those in the top tax bracket, while keeping everyone else pretty much the same, decreases government revenue. I suspect the deficit change will be a net zero, with decreased funding for government programs, and increased wealth for billionaires.

Corruption my ass. The corruption that is happening is occurring right now.

Do you think Trump should obey a federal judge or just ignore the order? I think I know the answer. Go iron your brown shirt.
I am stunned that so many seem to be confused by a budget that has two major portions, expenses and revenue. Congress?

Trump is trying to improve both ends. The amount of revenue they have to confiscate to make up for their out of control expenses is a major problem tho.

Well, yes. And, presidents.

Lowering taxes for the ultra rich and corporations, in THEORY, increase growth in the economy, but that hasn't panned out in terms of the budget deficit over time.

Neither the Republicans nor the Democrats seem to have any kind of handle on this. Trump doesn't either, whatever party he is.

Check out a some of the non partisan websites on tax policy and government spending. Trump is expected to continue to accelerate the federal deficit. Don't believe everything they tell you to believe on them there podcasts and X.

The Republican (and/or Trump) politicians want to continue to privatize Medicare and hand more over to for-profit insurance companies. It will just make matters worse. It already has. Medicare Advantage plans suck.

We've had tax cuts before so we already have a fairly good idea on what to expect there. What we haven't had is accountability for spending.

Anything the government isn't involved in is a win in my book. Of course my opinion o that could change based on the final number for wasted spending.
