Trump supporters, how do you square this?

I don't think the left has one and really haven't had one since Obama.

That whole side has been lost for a leader for a while. At some point, someone needs to step up, but it probably won't happen until 3 or 4 years from now. If at all.

Needs to be someone under the age of 60, if not 50.
Please God can we get younger politicians.

Yup

Can anyone tell me how DEI efforts at universities and companies have been harmful to you? Be specific. I know folks claim DEI is divisive, which is curious to me. I'm honestly interested in where that hurt you. It certainly helped some. I work in a very diverse setting with people from all over the world. I should note that Iowa is well over 90% white.

Does one's perspective of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts depend on the culture in which you live? If I'm in a rural area that is all white, I'd probably struggle to find utility in it as well.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but I'm curious how it made people so agitated and offended.
I would love to hear someone respond to your question.

Late to the conversation and not saying I disagree with you, but be careful about referring to suicides as an "extremely selfish act". I understand the logic behind that statement, but I've known survivors who attempted and they were far from selfish. Their mentality and self worth were so down, that they saw themselves as unimportant or an inconvenience to those that care about them and they're doing everyone else a favor. Some hurt, so much and knew how it impacted those around them that they felt it would not only end their suffering but that of their loved ones that they cared about.

I'm not trying to call you out, but in my line of work I see the other side and it's something that needs to get out there as much as possible. We have no idea what they're going through on the inside and while it may seem selfish to us it may be selfless to them.
I feel there's a difference in saying someone's a selfish person vs calling a specific act a selfish act. I don’t feel committing a selfish act automatically qualifies someone as a selfish person. Generally speaking, suicide in and of itself is a selfish act in my eyes. My viewpoint on the act of suicide however is not in any way meant to diminish the extreme hardships and extreme circumstances some people are going through who are considering suicide.

I understand where your coming from and each person sees it differently, but I agree that what may be deemed by someone as a selfish act does not make them a selfish person.

I've been working with folks who have been suicidal for over 30 years. Some have survived serious attempts to end their lives. I can see from an outsider's perspective that the act is "selfish", as I've seen firsthand the devastation that suicide creates in those who are left behind.

Having said that, my own experience with this is a little different. People sometimes have such a cognitive distortion about themselves and their worth that they see themselves as a tremendous burden to their loved ones, and have a genuine thought that their loved ones would be better off without them. Of course that's not true, but this is part of the complexity and tragedy of suicidal behavior.

A trauma-informed approach (over 90% of our patients have trauma), would suggest that we don't really understand what is going on in another person's life (or mind). I advocate for compassion vs judgment.

It's an oligarchy now, y'all. He just needed to help Trump get elected, and the favors will return to him tenfold.

I think his net worth went up an astounding $200B since the election (in case you were wondering if he was doing it for altruistic reasons).

He's worth about half a Trillion (with a T!) now. Nothing to see here. Just keep the proles arguing about DEI and immigration. BTW can we deport Elon? Show me your paperz!

Agree completely. Biggest thing to remind people is that how we see things and how they see things can be totally different. We can try to comprehend what they're feeling, but until we live it first hand we'll never know.

Shutdown getting close, Y'all

President Elon might get his wish and fervent desire

If the government shuts down after midnight Friday, 1.3 million active-duty troops will go without pay, as will hundreds of thousands of civilian workers. National parks will close, air traffic and airports will be snarled over the holidays, food-safety inspection will be curtailed, tax refunds and operations at Social Security offices will be delayed, and millions of poor and working-class people will lose access to other government services. The shutdown will add billions of dollars to the debt. But Musk (net worth: $440 billion) will be just fine — and he is now the one directing the Republican agenda in Congress.

God Bless America

How does not paying everyone add to the debt? Not arguing it. Just curious.

Guns are just a tool for murder. Take them away (logistically impossible) and people will find other ways. I'm not a gun owner btw...

I'm not against better gun control.

Yup. And the Repubs will shift the blame onto Dems, via Fox and others. And, the MAGA will say “Hell yeah!”

Because the Republicans listened to President Musk to nix the bill that would have paid these people and avoid the shutdown. President Musk and his assistant Donald Trump want to eliminate the debt ceiling so they can give themselves and their rich buddies a huge tax break.
Yup.

Here's a shocker. The deficit under Trump will accelerate faster than ever.

The proles who voted for him didn't realize a few things:

1. Middle class and poor folks aren't really going to see a big reduction in taxes.
2. Rich people are going to see a reduction in taxes.

If the government takes in a lot less money and continues to spend more (which it will), you just accelerate the deficit problem.

On the consumer side, folks that were super excited about Tariffs will be disappointed when they find out who pays (the costs get pushed to the consumer). President Elon and VP Trump sold the American public on cheaper eggs and cheaper everything. I wonder who they'll blame when it doesn't work out like they promised?

While we roll back the clock to the Gilded Age.
