Trey Dickerson - PTL

The younger guys will have to bring something special if this team is going to be really good UNLESS the BIGS, Woody, White, and Gabe, have made tremendous strides offensively and can be true impact players. I hope Jared and the new point guard can be significant catalyst in the success of this team. Jared, when on, poses as one of our better all around offensive threats (hitting threes and mid-range jumpers, and attacking the basket) but he needs to be more consistent. If Jok can be consistent offensively and improve on defense he too could play a significant role. It's going to be interesting who if anyone will rise to the top and be our go to guy. We need this type of player who can get it done in crunch time. Marble filled that role on occasion last year but on other occasion in the last five minutes of a game the opponent seemed to shut him down. It seemed to be contagious to the whole team in crunch time. That's why I am hoping someone on this team steps it up and carries this team. I don't know who will be our "ice in their veins" guy but we really need someone to be that guy and to be that guy on a regular basis. Without consistency it could get ugly this upcoming season.

I think PJ, JU, DU and JO are going to be consistent and legit perimeter threats. White needs mid-range (I know, beating a dead horse), but he, Woody and GO should be consistent scorers in the paint. MG needs to be just a scorer and I think will play a lot more 2 than I originally thought, as TD looks the part of a pg. We won't have bulk, but we'll be damn quick, straight-line. TD is our lateral quickness guy.

Yup... And can shoot. There will be alot of up and down the court and 3s in transition with this group. However if Woody and Gabe improve (no reason to think they won't) they should have a pretty balanced way of attacking inside out. Fran will have fun mixing and matching rotations and seeing who plays well with who and what matchups will work against the different teams they'll go up against. Iowa can go small or big. I'm a big believer in when you are the versatile team find what matchups favor you against the other team. I think Uthoff will be a matchup nightmare for everyone they play. 6-10 guys with a handle that can not only shoot but off the dribble... Is everyone thinking White will lead the team in scoring? Cause I'm more apt to think Uthoff will. I think Fran knows what he has there and is going to just pound into Uthoffs head that he can be the man and to have the confidence to be. If Uthoff can put on 10 to 15 lbs so he's a better player in side the free throw line and he's a freak.

I get what you are saying about the 3 position....but who can actually play there?
Oglesby- I think this might be his best position, but prefer him off the bench as instant offense.
Jok- again, might be well suited for this position, but prefer him at the shooting guard, starting.
Uthoff- will start at this position, but will struggle to guard true small forward types like Dez Wells, Ray Rice, Shavon Shields, Sam Thompson, Gasser, Irvin, Williams/Robinson of IU, ect.

I think this team still lacks a 6'5-6'' wing player who can guard those guys like Eric May could.

I think this team will be in shoot outs much like last year and go to zone alot (as much as I hate it) I don't think JO will be a the 3 at all... He'll be either the starting 2 or first shooter off the bench...(I love that role for him too) I think put him with TD on the 2nd line against the other teams 2nd group and watch them run/gun and spot up. I think if Jok plays well the starting 2 is his to lose he has more upside. If he makes too many mental mistakes or becomes an absolute defensive liability then you'll see JO start. It'll be interesting to see how that shakes out it's pretty darn early to predict that yet. But as far as guessing how that'll play out or Uhl and what his role will be who knows... I don't see Uhl playing more then what McCabe played late in the year. He'll spell Uthoff/White some and I hope he plays well. No chance he red shirts he does have skills.

I think we are about the only team in the country that has a "2nd group". Most other teams bring in a bench player hear and there to play with the starters.

The question is will that be a good thing or a bad thing?? It was a hindrance last year a lot of the time when Fran tried to find minutes for everyone and it seemed to disrupt our chemistry.

I think we'll see that Uhl has the ability to play the 2, at least for short stretches. He really plays the wing quite well. As with any FR, experience and strength will be his short comings. How quickly he can gain those could portend a deep team and run. We will always have problems with teams that can throw more than one bulky big at us, other than center. We just don't have a "power" power forward on the team.
