Trevor Trout says he thinks Tyler Cook will go to NBA after Sophomore season.

I'm not arguing with any of those observations. I think he will be a pro. I question how much development is needed to get there. The NBA draft can be hard to get a peg on outside of lottery picks.
 
Good gawd......there was a thread about him transferring and now this......let it play out a little, let it breathe. He could bolt after next year or he could be here for the next 3 years, let's just see what happens next year and go from there.

You only go pro if you're a guaranteed 1st rounder because that's the only round where you get guaranteed money. 2nd round picks go to the D-League. So if by "millions of dollars" you meant $35k a year slumming it in Fort Wayne, then yeah, he should go next year! :)
 
I love Tyler Cook. He has a great attitude; he is well spoken; he has the respect of his team mates; he seems to be unselfish on the court; he has a lot of natural talent. I hope he stays at Iowa for 4 years and has a great run.

NBA: Maybe. We shall see how he develops; we will see if he can shoot the basketball outside of the lane; we will see how he progresses on defense. I hope he gets a shot at the NBA at some point and is successful.

Gotta develop the mid range shot and when you get to the NBA with the extended 3 PT line, the mid range game for PF is like the high school 3 pt range if not college. He doesn't have that so we'll see how far that comes.

I think Tyler Cook will be an NBA player but I'm not sure he'll be ready by end of next year. If he is... it's only a good sign for the Hawks year next year!
 
If he ups his rebounding numbers sigificantly this year, he might try declaring and being evaluated by the pros. I'll suspect they'll tell him he has to have a better outside shot. If he's really 6'8"+, ups his rebounding and outside shooting, he might be ready to go. But that will probably take until after his junior year at least.
 
I know speculating about someone going to the NBA early can be about lying, and I know when someone's lying. So, you better not lie about something like this because I'll know.
 
I wouldn't be surprised if that's something Tyler said. As a basketball player it's good to have confidence.

I would guess he will go through the process next year, but he may not like what the scouts have to say.

I said it a few times when people were talking one and done before the season. The NBA is a completely different animal right now. Guys Tyler's size (6'9/250) are near automatic from the midrange, and many have stepped all the way back out to the NBA three. Heck there are plenty of 7 footers who are comfortable taking 3s. Back to the basket play, which is where Tyler really started to turn it on at the end of the year, is near non existent in today's NBA.

I think both skill sets are important. I think power post play is also more rare in the current landscape. Tyler excels in this area. It maybe worth it to a team more to have a back down post player than a stretch 4. He is still missing a piece of the post game though (hook shot). I'm also not closing the book on him developing a jump shot. Fran's staff has very good shooting teachers.
 
If he did end up at Iowa, he could be reunited with a friend from high school, Hawkeye power forward Tyler Cook.

“I haven’t talked to Tyler much about going to Iowa. We don’t talk every day or anything but it’s that Chaminade brotherhood,” Trout said.

Trout doesn’t believe Cook will be with the Hawkeyes by the time he gets there.

“He’s going to the NBA after next year. After next year, he’ll be in the NBA. He could have been a Top 25 pick this year had he not gotten hurt,” Trout said.

He's going to have to learn how to box out first.
 
Personally I hope Cook does turn pro after next season as that means he had one heck of a year for the Hawkeyes. He has the skills to do it but he has a ways to go.

All we know is this 17 year old football recruit who happens to go to the same high school that Cook went to said that he thinks Tyler will go pro next year.

I wouldn't be shocked if Cook tests the waters next year the same way that Jok did last year just to see what the interest is. He might as well. Barring an incredible improvement from year one to year two I don't see it being a smart choice though.

Saying he would have been a Top 25 recruit had he not gotten hurt this year is a little outlandish in my opinion. I don't believe that. He has the potential to be a top 25 recruit, but not yet. Far to many things for him to work on in his game to get to that point. We could easily rattle off hundreds of former college players who put up way better stats than Tyler did his freshman year and then went on to have their NBA dreams vanish. Whether they left in year two or three or even after they graduated. Making it in the NBA is incredibly difficult. I imagine, or at least I hope, that Tyler is well aware of that. Which is why I'd be surprised if he actually told this kid that he's going pro next year. It's not a bad thing to be confident in yourself, but you can't believe everything someone tells you. I'm sure there are agents out there telling kids all the time "Come on lets get you to the NBA next year! You'll be a Top 25 pick! I can get you there!". Players have to be smart enough to filter through that BS. I think Tyler is, and I believe Fran would give him his advice as well. He's not ready.
 
He will have to make some crazy big improvements considering he is not on any draft radar for next year.
