Trevor Trout says he thinks Tyler Cook will go to NBA after Sophomore season.

Interview that Rob Howe just posted with Trout (football recruit). Trout says Cook won't be here after next year. They went to high school together. I wonder how much this kid really knows? How much has come from Cook directly? Is Cook just bragging as kids do? FWIW I still think Cook will need a Jr year to lock up a first round pick. He will need to develop a better shot, better first step, better handles, better defense and better hands to receive the entry passes. That's a lot to shore up in 1 off season and 1 more season of play.

I read it as Trevor thinking Cook was good enough to go pro after next year....not that Tyler was actually PLANNING on it....

Right. I would change your title OP. He didn't say Cook plans to go to the NBA after next year. He said that HE thinks Cook will go to the NBA after next year. Big difference. I don't think Cook would appreciate a rumor like that getting started at this point in the off-season.

Cook was fun to watch but he still has a lot to work on. he hasn't shown he can shoot the ball at all and his rebounding and defense was sketchy at best.

Caleb Swanigan spent 2 seasons at Purdue so far. He and Cook are almost the exact same size. Swanigan can rebound and shoot the 3 and still isn't a sure fire first round pick.

I think Cook spends at least 3 years at Iowa.

There title changed. A bit nitpicky no? Second someone saying "I think" is sometimes meaning "I have heard" or "I have been told". That is my reason for the thread. I wanted to debate if Trout is really in the know. Third, Cook is a D1 athlete at a major university with pro potential. I don't think he much cares about fan base rumors or discussions about going pro. Even if he does I don't care. If we can spend a whole season bagging on the players for their shortcomings then we can certainly discuss their upside. Lastly, I didn't start any rumor at worst I propagated the spreading of said rumor started by Trout.

Whoa relax man. Personally, I think there's a big difference between someone else saying they think Tyler will go pro after next year vs Tyler himself saying he plans to go pro after next year. That's one person's opinion about him vs his opinion about himself. No where in Rob's article did Trout say that Tyler told him he's going to go pro after next year. He said he thinks he will.

Maybe Tyler wouldn't care that a rumor got started over something stupid like that. Maybe he would care. Who knows? I was just politely suggesting to change the title of your thread because that's not what was said. There's enough Fake News out there today!

Agreed on all points except for Swanigan and Cook being same size. Height appears to be relative, but Swanigan appears to be considerably heavier. I also think Cook has more athletic upside. I still think Biggie is the better player right now and still think Cook will need 2 more seasons to develop enough to be better than Biggie, but it is entirely possible that his athletic upside would outweigh some fundamental shortcomings in an NBA perspective. Hard to say either way.

You must understand that your interpretation of Trouts comments is not the only interpretation out there. It could be simple speculation, or it could be things discussed or heard. The whole comment about Tyler could have been top 25 pick this year if not for injury, I find very interesting. That doesn't sound like something Trout just made up based on his basketball expertise. I think that could have easily been relayed to him.

P.S. this is a forum board not a news outlet.

If he's good enough to go in the 1st round (only reason you leave as a soph) that will mean very very good things for Iowa.

I thought the same thing. However, ESPN lists Swanigan as 6-9, 250. Cook at 6-9, 253.

Either Trout has insight and wisdom way beyond his years or he has spoken with Cook or someone close to Cook to be able to state in such detail the future of his friend.

You understand what I'm saying. It is peculiar to hear someone say such things. Especially if it is personal speculation.

It's interesting you fixated on the word "think", basically implying that thinking something is nowhere near "knowing" something.

Here's a quote:

The thread bothers you, but if you phrase it like your defending Cook's honor you can see yourself as a hero and deflect that your reply is more about you than Cook. Personally I hope Trout is wrong and was just trying to represent that he knows more than he actually does. If I'm right, he would fit in nicely on message boards.

Lol okay? Good grief all I was saying is lets try to accurately post what was said and what wasn't. Not that difficult. No reason to try to perform an autopsy here. Just quote what the kid and said and leave it at that.

As good as Cook is he’s not a pro yet. He’s got a lot of improvement yet to make that jump. He needs a jumper. If he can get a Tim Duncan 12-15 footer in his arsenal that’d be huge. He doesn’t have to be hitting 3s necessarily. But he can’t be passing up open looks at the elbow. Not to mention his defense and rebounding aren’t where you’d expect. I love the fact he’s as good as he is and yet has all this room to get better. Can he make a huge leap in his game next yr? It’d be asking a ton yet I’m not going to say it’s impossible and hope he doesn’t. I hope all those guys coming back make huge strides to their games. It’ll be fun to watch.

Cook is a good athlete and is listed at 6'9 or 6'8 depending on your source. Which probably means he's actually 6'7. That's SG or SF size in the NBA. Will he be able to handle the most elite athletes in the NBA? I hope he proves he can.

I hope he sticks around 4 years but worse players have gone pro earlier and will continue to do so.

Does that mean the NBA lists actually heights? If they don't, fake 6'8" in college is the same as fake 6'8" in the pros.

Anunoby from Indiana had a knee injury and is projected as a first rounder If he declares for the draft. If Cook has a great season next year, I can see him going pro. He has to be thinking about the millions of dollars he could make for him and his family. Cook is a talented guy. Some guys will never be in the NBA no matter what they do because of their physical limitations, but I don't think Cook suffers from anything like that.
