Incoming Iowa Freshman O-Lineman Willing to Do Whatever It Takes
I wish I shared your optimism. The OL was dreadful. I'm not sure "experience" means they'll be better by default. Hope I'm wrong. He is talented, but there is a logjam of experienced guys in front of him, including 2 transfers with starting collegiate experience. I know the line sucked last year, but part of that was a couple guys playing out of position and part of it was a QB who was utterly immobile. I believe that the line will be MUCH better and if a true frosh breaks through into the two deep that kid is going to be drafted, high.
If he plays that is a problem. I hope he's the next Tristan Wirfs but if he's not, he'd better be redshirting or at worst, filling in for an injured player. As mentioned above, we have enough guys that who have been through the wars last year. Offensive line is one of the positions where experience matters a lot. What do you think the chances are he sees the field this year?
Drum, there is absolutely reason to be optimistic. The main reason is that Kirk and Brian Ferentz did not all of sudden just forget how to recruit, develop and coach up talented OL. KF is regarded as one of the best OL coaches in the entire sport. Is he perfect? Of course not. It took them way too long to figure out Colby could NOT play tackle, but is a really good guard. When they made that switch the left side of the OL started to really gel at the end of the year. It will be a strength again. We all hoped that Jones would be Lindy, but he is not. He got a bit better as the year progresses and he should be even better as he gains more experience. He has played the position for a cup of coffee so there is plenty of upside available. We have a lot of experienced guys who can man the RG position. Not worried there. To me, I would spend every ounce of coaching ability I have to find a god damn serviceable RT. that position has stunk since Wirfs left. Let the entire room know that the RT position is open for whomever can step forward and take it. Gotta solve that.I wish I shared your optimism. The OL was dreadful. I'm not sure "experience" means they'll be better by default. Hope I'm wrong.
Not sure why that would deter him. There are 2 tackle spots on the OL. Playing opposite a guy like Proctor could only help you.If I remember correctly, Iowa almost had another highly ranked tackle in this class who went elsewhere. I believe he would have stuck with Iowa if Proctor hadn't strung the Hawks along for so long.
Yes, but Lauck was in the fold too.Not sure why that would deter him. There are 2 tackle spots on the OL. Playing opposite a guy like Proctor could only help you.
