I can not believe how many coaches and media people are saying Tressel is an honorable man. Have they not heard he is a liar?

It's simple really:

Honorable.

Tressel presents a fine upstanding citizen to the public at large. He writes books about his faith, talks about faith, talks senatorially in press conferences, stresses morals, etc. 95% of his life, he walks the walk. He does good things for people who need it. So many people, including Ferentz, have a high opinion of him.

5% of his life he is a cheating bastard. He is no different than many a leader before him who presents a pristine face in public, and can do some evil things behind closed doors.

You have a point..

it's an image he has worked to cultivate over the years and when something gets repeated so many times people accept it. At some point it would seem that the "honorable" part needs to be dropped. He had many chances to do the right thing and chose not to at every juncture.

It's an unwritten law with coaches. Do not speak ill of each other in public. But in private with recruits and their parents it's a different story.

Kinda like how everyone is saying he was "only" lying to "protect" his players.

It's not like they they were going to get a firing squad for what they did, only a couple games suspension. He was really "only" lying to protect OSU's shot at a BCS national title.

I like how some folks out there call Tressel "honorable" for resigning after being caught cheating.

Kind of like if some MLB player admits that he used steroids. Or a politician who breaks down in tears and apologizes after being caught laundering money or something like that.

Sorry, but if you cheat and get caught, you didn't have honor enough to NOT do whatever got you in hot water in the first place, so don't give me the "great guy" BS.

Everyone is always sorry AFTER they get caught.

I understand what Ferentz is going to say publicly about JT. No one will ever know but him what he thinks in his heart. Losing prospects to a guy who sends recruits on a visit to the local car dealership during their recruiting trip sure can't impress Captain Kirk.
