TRANSCRIPT: McCaffery Talking 2012-2013 Hawkeyes at Media Day

LOT of hyperbole in this one, but I like it.

Fran on White: I"’d like to see him step up offensively and take those 11ppg to 15 or 16, which I think he’s capable of doing."
Fran on Basabe: "He's in the best shape of his life."
Fran on Oglesby: "He's one of the best shooters I've ever seen."
Fran on Gesell: "There have been very few, if any more focused athletes I've ever been around."
Fran on Depth: "I don't know that I've ever had a team, and I mean this sincerely where we've got 12 guys that can play the game."

LOT of hyperbole in this one, but I like it.

I know a lot of people like Fran's hyperbole, but I don't. Optimism and hyperbole are not the same things. I mean seriously, you've been coaching nearly 30 years, and a guy who's been on campus for 2 months is the most focused player you've seen?

It's gonna be hard for Josh to live up to my expectations if I keep hearing this "Best Shooter I've ever seen" talk..

Maybe he's telling the truth. It is possible;)

Ghost taking the contrarian point of view? Shocking LOL.

I suppose, but I doubt it. Like I said, some people like his hyperbole, I really don't. Ghost likes to keeps it real.

talk or no, it all comes down to wins. Kirk's style has widely acclaimed when we were winning big during that stretch. if Iowa makes some waves this year, folks will love Fran just the same. now, if we plateau and never get better, than that talk starts to sound like old Timmy Brewster.

so, in the end, it comes back to wins.

Agree to a point but at the same time I believe the program needed a coach like this to build it back up after the depths that it sunk. We needed energy and somebody who can talk us up a bit to us to the point where we can get the wins.

I do agree with Ghost a bit that hyperbole, especially about freshman is a bit much. But he is building confidence in a program that really needs it.

I still feel I learn some insight about his players and coaching philosophy with every interview.

yeah, yeah, yeah...

but, you have to admit, it is great to be talking Iowa b-ball again!

i agree with this. we needed a complete change, in playing and coaching style. and we got it!

One thing about Fran, he is all about winning and will not accept mediocrity on a continual basis (unlike Ferentz). Fran may have a down year here and there but he will do something to fix the problem asap and get back to winning again. Fran is and always has been a winner.

lolwut??

Fran is putting a lot of pressure on himself when it is not needed. Fans are now going to be expecting a NCAA tournament team when in reality this team probably still ranks at the bottom in Big 10 talent. He better produce after talking this team up so much and the talk of Marble going pro

Fran is a gamer which is a great thing considering the recent history of Iowa basketball before he came to Iowa. He not only seems to have an extra heartbeat with the team, but with the recruiting as well. With Woodbury and Olesani going at each other in practice every day, I think Iowa will surprise the people that don't have a good expectation for this team. Don't forget that the two freshmen point guards are going at each other too. All the other positions are going to be experienced.

I agree he is creating some possible potholes. But, I like the confidence and he has a pretty good roster. He just plays in a real, real good league.
