Ghost. Can't believe I'm saying this, but, you are right. HOWEVER. Dead wrong on the tournament comment. Hyperbole or no hyperbole, we're gonna be dancin in March.

While Fran does hype his players, he also doesn't go into a shell when things go wrong. That's where the comparisons to Kirk are generally valid.

That's fair. Of course, much like Kurt, he is walking on water after experiencing unexpected success. If he sticks around for a decade, I doubt he's as good a soundbite when things go wrong.

That's also probably true. But Kirk was never a vibrant personality with the media. It's gotten worse over the years, but it was never good.

They operate on different personality octaves, although it's inevitable that a coach slides down on their respective octave over time.
 


Ghost, I think you miss the mark on Fran. He is trying to take a program, fan base and players who are used to a culture of LOSING, and make it into a culture of WINNING. He is over the top, but when you listen to him, that also allows him to be critical of kids without seeming like a d!ck of a coach, and turning his kids off. He has said Basabee didn't work as hard as he needed last year, he is constantly saying Oglesby needs to get more aggressive and confident with his shot, he has called out Marble defense, and the whole teams defense.

So while he goes over the top with the praise, who really cares, and what does it hurt? He talks like Marble has a chance to leave early for the NBA, but he uses it as motivation to challenge him to play defense, and take the next step.

If you think these statement aren't just for the fan base. They are motivation for the team, and the individual players to get the most out of them, stay positive, and yet still challenge them. That is why I don't have a problem with Fran flys off the handle and freaks out on the players. It isn't like that is all he is doing, most of the time he is positive, and coaching in positive and constructive ways. He is constantly motivating and coaching, and I LOVE IT!!!
 


Deano, I don't believe for a second that the stuff Fran says to the media is the same stuff he says to the players in private. I do think he says that stuff to pump up the fans, because he's a great salesman and he's trying to tell his team.

The only real problems that can occur from him doing this is to create unrealistic expectations. He got me last year with his "Basabe could average a double-double" talk, but he's not going to hook me again this year. If I'm buying a used car, I'm checking it out in person, not having the salesman describe to me how awesome it's going to be.

Not that it matters, but Fran never said Oges was the best shooter he'd ever seen. He said that he was one of the best.

I have no problem at all with Francis. I don't liek the way fanboyz cream their panties at everything he says. Much liek I do not care for people who think everything Kurt says are lies of Satan.
