Tough gutsy team that cant shoot

Lets put you in a converted ballroom and see if you can do any better. But yea, not a great shooting team. Yet.

Another way to look at it is... How many teams can win a game against a fairly good team shooting like we did tonight? We'll certainly never be at the top in shooting percentage, but we'll be better than we were tonight.

Yeah no kidding, that gym is bizarre. Never seen the whole crowd sitting in the dark like that. Also haven't seen a college game with that low of a ceiling.

Never quit. How far can a team go that just doesnt shoot the ball well?

Really is the $1,000,000 question. On one hand, very excited for how tough Iowa plays. On the other, very frustrated at how they can go through spells of being completely out-hustled and looking discombobulated. On one hand, thank you for Dev Marble. On the other, so frustrating that it's an exclusive situation -- when he's on, the rest of the team seems to grab the popcorn.

And the shooting. Lord help the shooting. All I want for Christmas is consistently shooting a pedestrian 43% and 33%. Get to merely average shooting and this team could really be special.

Yeah, this is not going to cut it: FG% 35 3% 26 FT% 68

That's ugly.

Iowa had only 12 turnovers in 45 minutes, while forcing 19. The offensive rebounds and overall rebounds were just about the same. Iowa also wore Xavier down and I think McCaffery avoided calling timeouts to keep the pressure on them. The press was effective, and McCaffery had the right players in at crunch time. I thought Gesell, McCabe, and Olaseni were huge factors down the stretch. As Iowa plays tougher teams over the next few weeks and then the conference schedule, Ill bet Jok doesn't get more than 5 or 6 mnutes a game. He's totally lost on defense and has no clue about how to create good shots.

Define "yet". Their going on 1-1/2 seasons.

The o.p. asks the key question about this team. They're tall, long, tough, deep, play great defense ... if they could merely shoot average on a consistent basis, the sky is the limit for the Hawks.

I'll take an ugly win any day. If we can shoot this bad against a decent team, and win... I'll take it! We never would have won this game last year.

This game will be a very valuable experience for this team going forward.

No idea how far they can go, not even sure if really care.

But...I do know what side of the bracket they are on! That's right, the WINNERS side!

Great win tonight for the Hawkeyes.

Iowa shot 30.3 from the floor in the second half, less than 22% from three in the second half and was down by 15 at one point in the second half...and won. That doesn't happen a lot.

What I enjoyed most outside of the win was how this team didn't fold.

Every team will run into nights that the shots just won't fall, bad teams will almost always lose when this happens, good teams will still find a way to win. The Hawks won this game with some really good defense and clutch shooting when*it was most needed.

Shooting issues have plagued Fran's teams for several seasons now. This year in particular I keep thinking if we could only shoot the ball at an average clip or slightly better how many points would we score?

I think we have to expect some blow outs and/or disappointing nights based on our perimeter shooting.

I would venture to say that happens less than 5% of the time. That is just a crazy stat.
