Tough break

Poor kid. Had to be a tough decision to hang it up, even though I'm sure it was the right decision. Just too bad that injuries prematurely ended his career.

Absolutely heart breaking. Of all the things... mechanical engineering...what a shame.

But in all seriousness. Looks like he's doing well in school, and is pretty smart, so he still can get a good degree and put that to use. Shame he can't play football, but perhaps he can still be involved with the team. You don't have to play to have a future in football.

"Barrent will remain on scholarship while not counting toward the NCAA's 85-man scholarship limit."

I didn't realize this was possible. It makes you wonder why the SEC insists on oversigning then. Couldn't they at least let the kids they run off the team remain on scholarship??

They can for injuries, but a lot of the over signing is just replacing one player with a better one. A lot of those kids dont want to remain in school and NOT play football.

Saban and Alabama has had numerous players do this.

I recall at least three guys out for medical reasons that Ferentz has allowed to stay on scholarship - Kahari Stewart, Vernon Jackson, and Ettore Ewen.
