Total yards allowed including returns

194 rushing + 279 passing + 183 in returns = 656 total yards allowed. Is Iowa State good, or is this going to be a long year? What is the record for total yards given up in a game?

It's going to be a long year, and ISU is not that good. UConn will beat them by 2 touchdowns next week.

As Rhoads has said many times, this is his most talented team since he's been here.

So I think, when they are clicking, they can be pretty good. But when they're not, it's ugly... like against UNI last week.

Also, Iowa is not even close to the team they were last year. They just aren't. They lost a ton on their D-line. That hurts. ISU couldn't run the ball at all against UNI, but were very succesful yesterday. I don't know what that really says, but UNI's d-line is a veteran and experienced group.

I think it's a little of both. We aren't that good, but ISU is better than us. They should have beaten us by two touchdowns in regulation.

And I don't see UCONN winning next week, certainly not by 2 TDs. The ENTIRE reason they were any good at all last year was Todman, and he's not there anymore. Their QB play is embarrassingly awful (and they've only gone against Fordham and Vanderbilt). ISU is going to win that game.

I was watching the coverage specifically. ISU was initializing contact and knocking our guys on their ***es.

It was that way all game. Iowa players were hesitant. There were a number of times where Iowa guys settled down and waited for the ISU player to get to them instead of forcing the issue.

The punt, kick off return coverage was horrible. Putting ISU on the 40 all game did little to help Iowa's defense.

A TON more than this

I think ISU is a little better than teams we've seen in the past and we're not quite as good as we've been in the past. And unfortunately where we are not quite is good is a bigtime key area...our DLine and LB's. I think we will still win some games this year but it isn't going to be with the run-stopping style and pushing teams around style that we have known. It is going to have to come through big plays. We are going to give up a lot of yards this year IMO.

The return yards we allowed was surprising ... especially when Kirk even comments prior to week 1 that he was pretty happy with the special teams ... Maybe he was simply referring to Meyers and Guthrie ... and not the kick coverage :)
