Torrey Hendrick commit

This is a huge get. Surprised there isn't more excitement. Probably because of all the doom and gloom on the basketball board.

now we know the full story on Young - and why he was initially 'confused' when the coach left. I'd bet he wanted to come to iowa at that point, and iowa told him 'sorry'.

Great get for the Hawks! Interesting that Ferentz said awhile ago he expected about 20 commitments, and they are already at 22!

His fundamentals and technique are outstanding. A lot of the plays he made on his highlight tape were made because he was playing disciplined football. Stayed in his lane, kept his outside shoulder free, and controlled his blocker until it was time to shed and make the play. Great instincts. I suppose these things are exactly what you would want in a JUCO recruit. Someone who's more fundamentally sound than what you would typically find with a true freshman. I can see why some big schools offered him. Anytime Iowa gets a recruit when the defending National Champs were interested it's a good steal.

I love this commitment but the only downside to him is it sounds like he will not graduate in time therefore the earliest he will get on campus is in June/July. So unless he shows up in beast mode he's ticketed to a redshirt this coming season. Good thing is he has four years to play three.

Reading Torrey's comments in the article, I noticed the same language as we have seen from other recruits.

It must be a big selling point with the Iowa coaches that there is no pro team in the state, and that Hawkeye Football is the main attraction.

It seems to work pretty well.

I'm hoping he's our Randy Gregory. A guy who can come in and add immediate help as a grade "A" pass rusher, but also help contain athletic QB's. One of the more frustrating aspects to an overall good season was watching QB's like Braxton Miller rip off huge gains on broken plays. Really need someone to chase those athletic QB's who has a realistic chance of catching them.

This kid looks like he good be really good. Great pick up! I like the class they signed.

Nobody has signed on the dotted line quite yet. I'm crossing my fingers for no defections, but regardless, really big get for sure, and this class is shaping up to be pretty solid.

Welcome aboard, Torrey! We needed some talent at DE pretty bad.

The defensive line needed this kind of boost.

Torey Hendrick is a legit player who could challenge for a DE position at Iowa.

Nelson & Harris are more than likely going to redshirt from this 2014 class to be able to compete at DE in the Big Ten.

I was unaware a juco kid could redshirt. Not sure they would bring him in if he wasn't expected to compete immediately. Powell got SOME playing time. It didn't work out so well for sokol, good free education though. He will at least be a pass rush specialist with his attributes, just like powell was a fly route/screen specialist. This kid is athletic. Hope he sees the field more than powell did. Running routes and rushing the passer are two different beasts. As long as he can contain and shed blocks, he may see more than just specialist time.
