Top 3 LBs

Wow good question.

i think we rotated quite a few of them in today.

i thought they they looked pretty good today with Bo, Perry and Jewell.

I like Spearman, Alston and Bower. Bower plays with good speed, he just needs a little more game time to become more instinctive. Spearman is young too. He and Alston play with attitude.

We might need a couple more games to determine top 3 but one thing is for sure, the concerns we had at LB at the beginning of the year are gone for me. All of them are playing well. Good to see Jewel in there today.

Spearman got pancaked on several running plays and just can't shed blocks when lineman get to him. I still say he's better lining up at the LOS and rushing the QB in our raider package. He just can't cover in space or shed blocks well yet.....and takes terrible angles. Was very impressed with Jewell.

That's where I wanted to see him play as well. He might get it figured out at LB.

I just checked what number Jewell has and realized that I thought #43 was Bower. You're right about Jewell. I like the speed he plays with. I'd like to see him get more reps.

During fall camp, Morehouse said Jewell reminded of Angerer. Hope he's right....

I was impressed with Perry's play right at the end of the game. It seemed like he was flowing to the ball and laying the wood on Conner.

Man are you right about his angles. Still think he will be a stud when all is said and done though.

I'm with HGF in thinking that Spearman ultimately ends up at DE. Maybe not this year, but before he's done at Iowa. For my top 3, I'll take Bower, Jewell and Alston, with Perry getting some reps, too.

I also like Perry's play and speed. He can run and cover a speedy receiver. Played the "Joker" position at Urbandale. Kid can fly.

So far, is it me or does Spearman seemed to get worked on run plays.
