Took a night to sleep on it...

Ferentz had a chance to make real changes to his staff and give the program the shake up it needed and he chose to promote from within on the defensive side of the ball, go the safe route with a completely unexciting, and possibly terrible, offensive coordinator and make sure to get his son a raise. He's made his choices and I think they will lead to his undoing within the next three years.

Three years. Yes. And if I'm wrong in three years I'll admit it. I will stipulate that it is KF's responsibility. He kept the old guys there too long, and if he hired the wrong new guys, it's even more on him. Much like running a business, the buck really does stop with the top guy.

Having said that, the news guys get three years to recruit. Once again, when PSU ran on the field, anyone who didn't see the size difference immediately, watched a different game then me. After 3 downs from scrimmage, if anyone didn't see the difference in speed, same thing.

Yep. Ferrets jumped the shark last offseason. Does GarBar have the sand to force him into retirement?

I have NO problem with the Brian Ferentz hire...you seriously think being a position coach/offensive coordinator in waiting for the New England Patriots (And coaching a couple of the greatest tight ends in modern NFL history) and going to o line coach at Iowa is an upgrade? Brian made a lateral move at best...and it certainly isn't a promotion.

Might want to slow your roll a bit, 'Force. In no one's version of reality was brian ferrets the offensive coordinator in waiting for The Patriots. That's an absurd statement.

Scorp I remember reading some articles when BOB left that were speculating the Brian was a candidate to replace him.
It Is What It Is » The short list to replace Bill O’Brien as Patriots offensive coordinator

That's a blog link...but I'm too lazy this morning to find actual links my apologies, but it does list him there...He probably would have been OC in NE in the not too distant future if he would have stayed.

LOL Brian Ferentz was not the offensive coordinator in waiting, if he was there would have been no need for the Patriots to bring Josh McDaniels back. Ferentz got that job because of who his dad is, Belichick was the guy who drafted and schemed how to use Gronk and Hernandez. Ferentz was just in the right place at the right time.

So you're saying if you're a coach on the Patriots staff you would take a similar position at Iowa? You're nuts

Cody, Jake and C.J. must know they have to win the QB job to start 2013 or they will never see the field. Sad.

I've thought about this angle too. I would think they'd be thinking transfer. I'm not that kind of guy, and I would normally say 'good riddance' to anyone who takes the 'I'm not playing, well F this' route, but you can't get one of these guys A FEW SNAPS with six minutes left down 38-7. I understand even JVB needs reps now, but tell me who stands to gain more from one series at the end of that game: Vandy, who has not visibly improved from Week 1, or any one of the backups who has never seen time in a D1 game?

I understand why Vandy is the starter. He's the best we've got. But you've got to throw the other guys a bone. Even the greatest team players in the world want to see the game field at some point.

With all the bad stuff that happened at Penn State, the good thing that came out of it was a coaching upgrade for them. O' Brian will build a dynasty there in short order.
It took scandal and death to make a change at PSU, otherwise old JoePa would still be there. What will it take at Iowa?

20 million dollars (or around that).

As much as it pains me to say it, I actually enjoyed watching the PSU offense last night. Dispite the fact that they were humiliating our defense they were very fun to watch. I'd like to dream that someday we could play that uptempo style. Oh to dream...

Personally, I don't need to see an uptempo offense, and further, that's not what made PSU run last night. It was QB accuracy, and if you look at 2010 Wisconsin (assuming recruiting a Tolzien-like QB is more manageable than a Russell-Wilson type), I think having a bigger line would do wonders. I love our line play and our technique, but so often, Iowa does not pick up the 3rd and 2 with ease. Those types of plays make a BIG difference.

It was everything. The QB was great, the line dominated, and the uptempo offense (it was super fast) made a substantial difference.

I'll agree with that. I misspoke in the sense that I didn't acknowledge that PSU was indeed uptempo last night, which they were. However, if McGloin isn't as accurate as he was, the tempo wouldn't have mattered as much, so I was simply responding to the other poster who seemed to express wanting an up-tempo offense like that at Iowa. All I was saying is that I'm okay huddling or not huddling if we're actually moving the chains. I've actually been happy that Iowa has often broken its huddle this year with :20+ on the play clock.

I tried to sleep on it one night, Wisconsin 2010, have not been back, my couch and remote felt real good last night.

McGloin was really, really accurate. I agree, uptempo or not, it doesn't matter if the players can't make the plays. PSU made plays all night, and Iowa didn't.

Good coaches build a system around their players thats exactly what Bill O'Brien has done. Krut and Gina Davis no idea how to use their current players. They dont execute in our system...change the system help them execute don't just throw out the same 5 plays and expect a different result. Krut Frents can suck it.

Just listened to the Solid Verbal podcast review of Week 8.Iowa was one of their Tire Fires of the Week. They said Iowa was awful, and that KF's seat should be getting warmer.
