Too Slow

Basic problem. Team also doesn't have it's identity - they don't seem to know who their scorer is on the floor.

Gesell probably should have played through the fouls because in the second half nobody had the ability to put the team on his back. Not saying Gesell could have in this game but he had the most upside possible to get into a groove.

Woodbury needs to get tough - quick.

Marble........ very disappointing. He watched the game. He needs to lead.

Really everyone played physically weak. These last two games very weak with the ball and sloppy. You have to protect the ball

This team can be pretty good by the end of the year.

Who on earth is going to score/defend in the paint for us? Woodbury is not ready...not even close. Basabe looks like a lost child and Olaseni is...well Olaseni. This will turn ugly once we start facing conference foes.

Marble seems to put up better outputs when he is the star with the ball in his hands....

he seems much more laid back when he is off the ball.

Unfortunately I agree. Somebody needs to tell Marble to put that stupid cross over in his locker and leave it there. How many times did he get ripped tonight? This was the team's first true test and other than Oglesby's run in the first half, they were awful on offense got beat to every loose ball.

Pretty disappointing. I think the OP hit the nail on the head. Competition is going to only get tougher once Big 10 starts. Woodbury has got to get tougher in there. He will get eaten alive in the Big 10. WSU looked more athletic and that is a little disheartening. But, I think we all know there will be lots of ups and downs this year with this team.

Hopefully we learn from the loss. That is what good teams do. Last year we were horrible to start the season and the difference from the Creighton game to the end of the year was a tale of two different teams.

I don't mind the loss too much. Maybe it will be a wake up call to the younger players that competition at the college level is a lot different than in high school. We need to establish an inside game and get some rebounding or Big 10 teams will eat us alive in the paint.

Chalk this loss down as a learning lesson and an opportunity to grow.

Someday we will have more talent than a mid-major team. We are just an average mid-major team playing in the Big Ten

This is a problem when players are always being switched out all the time. We also could use a monster under the basket like the shockers did. Woodbury is not there but the only way he will get there is by playing him. The school of hard knocks. He got a few knots on his head tonight. There was a lot if fouls that weren't called tonight which benefited the shockers style of play. I am concerned with what appears to be a lack of quickness.

You're an idiot. We have the talent but we're still young. They will learn to box out and scrap for the ball. Keep getting Clemmons, Olaseni and Ingram minutes we need them to attack the rim. And start going up strong. You can't keep trying to finesse the ball past a tall shot blocking team. We have the height and the athleticism to match. Play tough!

That's probably why Ingram played so much. We need to upgrade our quickness in our starting line-up. Sit McCabe and Woodbury, move Basabe and White to the starting forward spots and then put May in at the 3 or slide Marble to the 3 and start Gesell and Clemmons together.

This x10. He's the softest player on this team. How a 7+ footer cannot go up strong and finish at the hoop is beyond me, he goes for nothing but weak little layups that get blocked or stupid hook shots falling away from the hoop. And this is when he's actually on the floor and not in foul trouble. He gets beat on defense then has to foul. Someone needs to show him what a dumbbell looks like and how it works.

Were 5-1. I dont see any reason to be worried. This team will be fine when conference play rolls around. Woodbury will figure it out as each game gets him more experience. He has looked very good at times. I am not worried about this team finding their identity, with all the different people this year, finding your roll will take more than 6 games. May has been playing excellent, Oglesby seems to be on the right track, Marble needs to let the game come to him, McCabe will be solid, Basabe is looking improved. No reason to think this will be a tough year.

It's November. Remember the Campbell game last year? Clemson? Did you think that team would make postseason play? Patience.

..... McCabe will be solid, .....

Having a hard time figuring out what McCabe's contribution is going to be this year? Haven't seem him working very hard for rebounds and he's not been a perimeter scorer. He's not athletic enough to defend top level competition.

I understand not freaking out about a loss, but you shouldn't ignore what you are seeing either. This team has the ability to go absolutely ice cold from the field and has no one that can play inside. The 5 wins are to opponents with an average KenPom of 263 and have a combined 7-15 record. Here's hoping we see improvement like last year.

Time for some 'Sabe swag in the starting group.

For this to be true, there is going to have to be some massive improvements on the offensive end. If we can't get points in the paint against teams like these, how will we even score against teams that are top 5 in the country? We need a dominant inside presence and Woodbury is not it at this point.

Or we need to go to the transition game like last year where our bigs ran the court and didn't try to score with their back to the basket.
