Tony Freeman..more playing time..AT IOWA

I would think if you love your team, love your school, love your teammates, you stick it out one final year with a staff you may not completely agree with.

Just my thoughts.

I think Tony was the sacrificial lamb of the 1st season. I think there is fault on both sides but i also think that the number of player defections since this happened also sheds a little light on who might be more to blame. Just my opinion. Impossible to know for sure because we dont know what happened and what was exactly said behind closed doors

Lick should've put up with him?! Regardless of the state of the program, no player is bigger than that of the program- end of story, think what you want.

NO. Lickliter should have been a leader and inspired Tony, and all the other players who transfered, to follow him. This is my main beef with Lickliter - he is not a leader and he does not inspire his players. If you can't do those things I just don't see how you can be effective as a coach.

Until the day when coaches announce when they are leaving a school a year ahead of time I'm all for transferring. You .have four years and what's good for the goose is good for the gander. You get lured in with promises and statistical lies and then you wake up and see where you are at...this...this product that is on display. As for Freeman he has a little more respect for the MVC now I'm sure.

C'mon, really? We should also give everyone a ribbon for playing and trying hard just like it's tee ball. Or perhaps everyone should be able to play in the game- that's fair and inspires kids, right? (I'm intentionally over-generalizing here) If you're not in good graces with the coach, figure out how to GET INTO good graces with the coach or perhaps this isn't the right place for you.

I'm not saying that I let a guy do what he wants. I don't think that was the case with Tony. I believe each kid needs to be coached different. Some kids you can yell at, some kids you can not. I didn't see Tony be a problem.

Stormin - i usually agree with you but I will not agree with you on this. I believe David Palmer was a cancer, he needed to go. I think Anthony Tucker was a cancer.

Don't get me wrong. The coach needs to have the respect of his players and if Tony was willing to do that, then I'm glad he left. I just think it was more of Lick trying to be a tough guy right off the bat and I think it hurt us.

This is pretty much my exact sentiment.

It may not be a good comparison, but in the business world, there are bad bosses out there who make their employees lives in general a living hell. If those employees start looking for another job, does that make the employee a selfish person who thinks they are bigger than the company? Of course not! No, it's not good if the employee is doing what they want in the office, no matter what the manager says. On the other hand, is the manager always in the right simply because he's the manager? Things aren't always that black and white.

Again, I think some of the blame probably does lie with Freeman, but it's really hard to judge totally and accurately without knowing precisely how it all went down.

Lick revealed early that he cant manage people in how he dealt with Tony. Tony was a leader, a winner, and was a HAWKEYE through and through. Lick couldnt coach a talented player, couldnt sell him on his sorry anti-common sense style of ball, so he played the power game and pushed him out. Nice guy.

Just because the higher ups hired him doesn't make him 100% perfect. He's had a chance and I'm sorry but the cream of the crop went to Butler in that conference. It was built before he took the job. Guess what? You have to recruit at Iowa or Harrison Barnes would already be signed. Bottom line for me and I mean BOTTOM LINE any coach that is sooo into himself that he would let his kid tie up a walk on spot and then give him the minutes he does....well that says IT ALL!!!! The problem was Freeman knew all along what had to be done to be able to compete in the Big 10 and how dare him question!! Off with your head! Or Just go to SIU.
