Tommy Schutt-DT Glenbard (IL) West

Schutt is a 4* DT from the Chicago suburbs. He was a teammate of incoming Iowa freshman Jordan Walsh, and the Hawks have been going after him for a long time.
Going into yesterday, he was down to Michigan and Notre Dame. He woke up and decided to commit to ND, but before he could do so, the Irish got another DT commit and pulled Schutt's offer. Then Michigan pulled their offer.

Now Schutt, who wanted to commit before his senior season started, is left going "back to square one" just three weeks before opening day.

That is interesting....how high did we make it on Schutt's list initially? Were we at least top 10?

Considering geographic proximity, & our need @ DT, you would think Iowa would be a pretty logical landing spot for him. Let's hope it turns out that way.

He was getting "better" offers, so he didn't seem to have a ton of interest in Iowa, but if he's truly starting over, I think our odds are likely to go up dramatically.

UM will get Pipkins, ND gets Day, one of them probably gets Jarron Jones and Schutt gets the cold shoulder. Florida turned away 4* LB Deshawn Rippy last weekend, it happens...

Hey, that's what happens when you wait for all this glory and teams like UM and ND fill up early because well their UM and ND. Have to get on board if you really feel it. Seems like the hawks are always waiting on guys but that usually works itself out in the end. Would love to get this kid on board, most likely with a chip on his shoulder toward UM.

Penn State and Florida were his other 2 favorites. Hopefully the Chicago area kids that are committed and Walsh can get in his ear a bit and get him on campus to visit.

My bet is that Iowa had been recruiting him to play on the OL ... and he strikes me as a guy who'd probably prefer to play at DT.

If my hunch is correct, that was probably a big reason why he had originally eliminated Iowa.

If we have such a fruitful outlook on our OT recruits already this year, why wouldn't we look into him as a DT (Especially with our need in that area)??

It may be that we have guys higher on our board at DT. Just because our coaches (might) prefer him on the OL doesn't mean that they also like him (as much) at DT.

Churlish because one thing Iowa fans can rest assured of this staff has an eye for evaluating talent and knowing what spots to plug them in at. I was just thinking today, if KF is offerring a kid before his sr. year has even played out you can be excited about getting him IMO.

This bodes well for the hawkeyes on a couple of fronts. I'm going to agree that Michigan probably got a verbal from Ondre Pipkins (damn good player), sheldon day went to Notre Dame (too bad, he was going to visit Iowa) - thus filling both of their classes at DT. While we may or may not get back into the Tommy Schutt running, this should also help us in the pursuit of Danny O'Brien. In his chat last week, he speculated that Michigan would still take him even though the coaches had told him that they only had one spot at DT left. If they called Schutt to tell him the bus was full, I'm guessing O'Brien got his call as well. Same chat said Iowa was his favorite team currently - let's load up at DT.

It would be cool if we were to land O'Brien. I wonder why he wasn't talking up Tennessee. There was quite a buzz not that long ago that he was really high on Tennessee too.

Morgan Jr. already forgot about Bobek? That was just last year. Iowa says "no" to studs also.

Dear Tommy,

If one of the best OL coaches in the country wants you to play OL instead of DT, it would be wise to listen.
