Toledo coach Matt Campbell to ISU

Just a weird hire for Iowa State, going for the young "it" coach. Either he withers in mediocrity for several years trying his hardest to recruit in a football wasteland, or he sniffs a bit of success and immediately bolts for a better school. Either way Iowa State loses.

PREDICTION:

Campbell lasts five years at ISU. Peaks at 6-6 in year 3 and takes them to one bowl game, which they lose to Indiana. ISU fans don Campbell the savior of the program for taking them to a bowl game, then goes 3-9 the next two years.

Iowa State hires next "up and coming" coach who peaks at 6-6 and loses to similar middle-of-the-pack B1G team in bowl game and gets run out of town after 5 years. ISU fans don [insert coach] the program's new savior for taking them to a bowl game.

Hoiberg wins NBA Championship with the bulls.

Paul Rhoads secures job at LSU once they fire Les Miles and wins a national championship.

Meanwhile, Iowa erects a statue of Ferentz outside Kinnick Stadium and immortalizes his accomplishments by hanging championship banners from the rafters while ISUck fans STILL complain about Chizik ****ing on the program.

Iowa rattles off another undefeated season sometime in this span and ISU fans cry like babies and make *****fest topics on CyFan for the sole purpose of collectively expressing their unbridled jealousy.

After an unbearable amount of straight losing/mediocre seasons, Big 12 invites Creighton into the conference and relegates ISU to the MAC.

ISU fails to win in the MAC and ISU fans finally accept their positions as eternal athletic bottom feeders and baby brother to Iowa.

Rinse and repeat for 1000 years.

ISU is a basketball school. They will always stink in football. They can't compete in that conference

Look, Iowa state has had a few good years here and there in basketball, but calling them a basketball school is a huge exaggeration. Historically Iowa has had as good or better basketball tradition than Iowa state. Basketball schools would be more like Indiana, duke, North Carolina, Kentucky or Syracuse.

The only Clown fan that I know if that actually looks at things objectively and are honest with themselves is Steve Deace. He thinks it is a terrible hire, but hopes that he is wrong and the guy does good things.

Deace is right. The guy has never had even an assistant job at a P5 conference, has never recruited in this footprint of the country, and has never had to rebuild a program (Toledo has always been a pretty decent MAC level school).

It's funny to see how excited the Clone fans are about the fact that he's offering guys that had already committed to Toledo. It's not like this guy is coming from Ohio State and offering OSU commits. They're committed to Toledo for a reason.

If I were an Iowa state fan, I think I'd rather have his Toledo recruits than CPRs Iowa state recruits. This years cyclones wouldn't have sniffed a win at Arkansas.

I'm going against the grain here, I think for them it is a very good hire. I think he will make some improvement to the win totals each year but his ceiling over there is 6-7 wins and a bowl game every 3-4 years. Kinda like McCarney.

The obnoxious thing is that hope will build up for them all summer, and they will be claiming that ISU will be taking over the role as best football team in the state. They will talk about how they will dominate Iowa now that Rhoads is gone. Sadly, the new coach will just make them even more delusional until reality sets in.

THIS! This is so spot on. Hear it every single summer. Doesn't matter what happened the past season. They are like a brainwashed cult in Ames.

Yeah, they really need football to be decent.........those other schools not so much.

Let's just hope that Campbell isn't the same sort of spin doctor that CPR was. Part of the reason the Cyclone fan base became so delusional every offseason was because of the BS CPR fed them. They bought into it hook, line, and sinker. Never failed.

Hey, is that my paper boy? Sure looks like him. Our old wiley veteran Kurt will coach circles around this kid.
