He was ranked the #2 TE coming out of HS. GD was really high on him. He has shown glimpses of promise. That said, Is it just me or does he look slow and uncoordinated and easy to tackle when he actually catches the ball. I personally dont see him getting to the NFL. The one thing I dont know is how well he blocks.

He did originally commit to Zook. That gives you an idea of the type of intellect we're working with here...

He has been extremely easy to tackle. He goes down with any kind of contact, does not fight for extra yards. I think Duzey is a better TE in terms of the passing game.

I think if we were to get him the ball more often, he may get better at yards after catch and fighting through tackles. I am still pretty baffled at the lack of use of TE's in general. We need to utilize them more often.

Agree 100%.

I believe he had two drops Saturday

Was one of them when Bullock ran the wrong route and they were basically stacked on top of each other? I know he had 1 that I remember...

Our TE's (whether it's CJF, Duzey, Hamilton, or Derby) are averaging less than 4 catches per game. For all the "stuff" coming out of Greg Davis at the beginning of the year, you'd have thought we'd be utilizing the position more. Having a drop here and there shouldn't disqualify the position and relegate it to disappearing from the game for massive chunks of game time, which it seems our TE position has done a lot this year.

With the amount of hype he received coming in, I expected more speed. He seems rather slow and lumbering. That being said, I still think we need to utilize him more. Way more.

Gronk isn't exactly a speed burning spin move-ing player either, but if you get him the ball in open space he can make some stuff happen. He's not built like Jimmy Graham or Aaron Hernandez.

He's got the build of Gronk or Kellen Davis, unfortunately he's playing more like Davis than Gronk.

He is amazingly slow off the ball, unable to create any separation between himself and a defender, and has hands of stone. Unfortunately the kid was unwilling/unable to learn how to block as a freshman and sophomore - negating the idea of converting him to an offensive tackle.

Bottom line, just another 4* bust for the Iowa program.

let's not forget that he goes down with any amount of contact. TE's are supposed to run people over, not be hand tackled every time

It's hard to tell what CJF can do as a receiver because this year he was cursed with the misfortune of having both Vandenberg and Greg Davis. One thing I DO know is he has improved tenfold in the blocking department since his freshman/sophomore years. He has turned himself into an exceptional blocker for a TE.

He is underutilized. Throw him the ball at height over the middle, allow him to reach above the LB or safety covering him. Not 4 yard crossing routes where the pass is delivered at his waist (or lower). If this really is Greg Davis's offensive philosophy, then call it a bad hire and move on. If it's JVB's inability to find an open receiver and deliver a ball at a place where a receiver can catch it and continue to make a play, then there's only 3 more games left to endure.
