Are we talking about the same NFL where Mark Sanchez, Matt Cassell, Blaine Gabbert, and Kevin Kolb all regularly start at QB?
 
I actually think he would do well in the right situation in the NFL. Philadelphia could be a really great fit for him. They have a solid group of defensive players, a great running back, and a solid pair of WRs. Their biggest issue is their offensive line which is Ferentz's biggest strength. His biggest issue in that case would be dealing with the media and the insane fanbase.
 
You guys ever think that if Ferentz is the competitor we are told he is, he doesn't care about security? Maybe he wants challenge to prove himself.
 
I don't think Norv Turner is a very good example. He might have been recycled, but before being hired as head coach his second and third time he had spent the previous seasons as an NFL offensive coordinator.

Kirk hasn't been in the NFL for 14 years, and never even achieved a coordinator's position. In fact, do you think anyone has ever been out of the NFL for as long as Kirk, never been a coordinator or head coach in the league, and been hired for his first NFL head job at his age (57 or older)?

I would guess it hasn't happened. At first I thought perhaps Dennis Erickson or Spurrier, but I think those guys were quite a bit younger when they landed in the NFL.

We tend to think of Kirk as an "NFL guy" but the truth is, the guy spent a couple of stints as a position coach in the league and has been out of it for an eternity, at least in NFL terms. I'm sure plenty of NFL GMs and assistant GMs respect him a great deal and would love for their sons to play for him at Iowa. But I doubt, with their job on the line, he'd be their choice as an NFL head coach.

Be sure to structure it as a gift to the U of I to have them do it because it will save you over $7 million on your taxes. Will you hire me onto the staff as a consultant? I'll take $400k/year, but I will only live in IC during the fall and I'll come back for the spring game if I don't have anything better to do and I will only attend the Rose Bowl.

Maybe that caller who popped off on Kirk's call in show has Ferentz thinking that orange and brown look better then black and gold.
 
KF would be a complete disaster in the NFL. His complete and utter incompetency at clock management and the two minute offense would have him run out of town within two seasons at any stop.

SMB, I agree 100% but I think everyone has always said KFs schemes would work with talent like Alabama. It would be very interesting to see it play out if he went to a team with a ton of talent in the NFL. He would need a very heady QB to make up for some poor play calls though.

KF had pretty good talent in 2010 and we went 7-5. He has got to learn to change with the times, or Iowa football will not be back anytime soon.

There is a consensus that Ferentz is grossly under-performing on the coaching sidelines. So what in the heck do these "experts" see in him that we don't?

It is ridiculous. The guy flat out sucks as a coach. The only reason he ever had success is because he used to have asst. coaches that could recruit well. They have been long gone for a while now. Hence, ferentz exposed.

Ferentz would get killt by the media in Philly. That's even before he coaches a game. The second boneheaded in-game call would draw a curtain of boos from the lovely Eagle fans, and it would only get worse from there.
