To the true Non-Iowa fan

I miss the days when Hawkeye greats were admired for well, being great. There was no Twitter because Al Gore hadn't invented the internet yet and therefore the only way we could chastise the players was to do it in our small drinking circles among our closest friends. If given the chance, would Hawkeye fans of the 80's and 90's have felt the need to point out that certain players were out partying until the wee hours of the morning snorting powder like it was candy and drinking enough booze to lay most men unconscious?

Having grown up in Iowa and leaving that gawd for saken part of the country for better weather, better looking women, and a job that doesn't require me to jump on a John Deere each morning, I've come to find Hawkeye Nation a great way to stay connected to the team I love. I just don't get all of the complacency that exudes a fan base with nothing better to do than support a mediocre product (football more than basketball). "alford just needs time....", "Lickliter is a nice guy...", "Player X hustles his butt off....", "Hawks to the NIT is a good thing..." Enough already. Do you think that shooting a 15 foot jump shot from 20 feet is easy to do? All of these complacent posts directed at your beloved Hawks is not going to change the fact that we were told to go suck a big one. As frustrated as you feel, I guarantee you the players feel 1.3 times worse.

If you consider yourself a true Hawkeye fan, your job is to grab a little lube and get behind your team and support them through thick and thin...I mean that's what Cubs fans have been doing for 100 years and you don't see them complaining do you?

Perhaps this team has finally provided hope to a fanbase that has been cursed for the past 10 years of inept coaching, recruiting and most importantly a ******* of an AD that remained complacent while the program went into the *******. It wasn't like most fans didn't realize after a year or two that alford wasn't a good hire and when the flavor of the month club flamed out after about an hour of droopy dog(ish) press confernece we should have just sat back and let the process run its course.

Who are we to say that we want a quality product on the floor anyways? We aren't alumni of the University nor donors to the athletic department nor do we spend copious amounts of money on memorabilia and athletic apparel in support of our beloved Hawkeyes.

If you're lucky enough that a blizzard doesn't come through and you are actually able to be at Carver on Sunday, do your job. When the Hawks take the floor against Purdue, scream your dust filled lungs out and remind those boys on the Iowa sideline why it's great to be a Hawkeye...The Fans!!

Your irony is lost on me. The derisive description you mock of the fan who sticks with a team through thick and thin is exactly what I consider a fan to be. You'll never change my mind.

...and your post wasn't even funny, so, -2.
