You should love the BF pick for OC. We know your aim is to have Kirk gone, which realistically is not going to happen but you stew on it. Kirk would be around for a long time, but with this pick if Brian tanks in 3 or 4 years you know Kirk will go out also at the same time. If Kirk had picked anyone else from outside, then we could just have another OC change in 4 years if things didn't work and maybe Kirk stays. If it works, then all of you people who just have the hatred will probably still hate but you won't be able to be so loud about it or you will just switch your usernames and be your other personality.

Yep, give the guy a shot. BF also has ties to the NFL which can help recruiting. He doesn't just have ties to the NFL but to arguably the best team and coach in NFL history.

It was not a smooth transition when Greg Davis came and it wouldn't have been if KF hired and brought an outside guy in with a different philosophy/system. Bringing BF up helps keep consistency with what they want to do and I think he can diversify the offense and play calls within what they like to do. What is nice is that tweaking the system can be done instead of an overhaul. KF doesn't like overhauls and doesn't do well with them.

This is probably the best for the transition, IMO.

Brian, and Kirk as well, are not dummies. They both understand that if BF does not succeed at the OC position, Brian's career is on the line. And, KF would probably go down also, as Westender suggests.

None of Brian's NFL connections has helped Iowa in recruiting. Really, neither has the fact that Iowa puts a ton of kids into the NFL (though it's becoming less and less over the last 5 years).

Here's the positive for BF, GDGD put on one of the worst displays of offensive football in his five years here. There is really only one way to go, and that's up.

Brian's tweet the other day about having a true balanced attack kind of has me meh already because we all talk about his time with the Patriots, and they are not balanced for the sake of balance. Patriots do a better job of adapting to their personnel better than anyone around, and it does help having a HOF QB too.

While I expect to see Iowa throw to their TE more over the middle of the field, I am not sure we'll see a variation of anything else. We'll still come out in our I formation, double TE and try to run the stretch to short side of the field on 3rd and short to no avail.

But I also agree, this is Brian's shot. If he stinks it up, he's probably gonna stall his career.

All we can do is wait and see.

1) Yea. Already thought Iowa was one of the more balanced offenses, at least usually when not depleted at a position.
2) Agree they have to find away like in the past to go down the middle of the field more. This has not been there for several years, well, since GD was there.
3) I think he will call a little more diversified offense and maybe do things such as utilize other players more like the fullback or something. They just have to be less predictable and run different plays that they already have in the books. Maybe change up formations, etc..

This has been our main problem on offense for quite some time. As long as BF improves the play calling to where just about everybody watching can't call the play before it happens... including my wife who knows nothing about football!.., it will be a HUGE improvement!

God forbid they audible INTO a pass play once-in-awhile! When they check off, everybody knows where the run is going.

Who has more connections to the NFL? BF or Lovie Smith?

4 and 5 stars are still going to the coaches who have a NC on the mind. 2 and 3 stars hoping to get to the NFL might chose Brian for his NFL experience.

We can only hope for change and improvement at this point. I realize that it's really only entertainment but it would be nice to win all the marbles just once in a life time. It's up to KF and son to take a good look in the mirror and decide if they have the courage to make that change.

Speaking of which, the following video is excellent and puts a little perspective on sports and all of the other silly things we get caught up in. I think that this is one of the points that Jon has eluded to from time to time. Maybe we all need to a look in the mirror from time to time.

I like the move coach made to put Brian in control of the O. To be honest, I really doubt there was a long line forming to take this job. I would rather have Brian in there anyday, than to go into a coaching search that more than likely wouldnt work out anyhow. Im all for Brian getting his chance, because I really like how ive heard hes a players coach, and I think having a younger OC like Brian calling plays, might spark our offense and really get it going! Im really hoping it works out! Go Hawks!!

^^^^^^^^ THIS^^^^^^^^
Audible........... run ......... Over right guard.

Hey, bud, we ran over left guard the whole regular season. The audible was changed to right guard for the bowl game and it actually worked the first two times we ran it because we caught them napping. Granted, we only gained four yards total the next seven times we ran it, but it did work twice. Davis only had four weeks to prepare so you can't expect multiple audibles.

I think Kurt ran the long troll on us. He replaced KOK with probably the worst guy with a passable resume he could find. And when it predictably failed we reached the point where we as a fanbase were happy the guy hired his kid to run the offense.

I'm glad Davis is gone, but it's a shameless and transparent move by Ferentz.

LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously if Brian runs this same kind of crappy offense I won't be able to endure it. Would prefer water boarding or toe removal with vice grips............. no pain medication needed. :D

Exactly. This was the plan all along. KF is just looking to get his kid the head coaching job, thats it. Anybody that doesn't see this is simply blind. He has no business being the OC with zero experience, and on top of it he can't recruit worth a crap just like his dad.
