Tired of this excuse

Sorry, I should clarify what I meant. I don't like it if you move on with your life but one don't accept the lose as trivial and two don't put down the fans that stand up and fight for something better.

As far as the climb to supremacy goes, if that's not our goal then why fight? IMO, we should accept nothing less. I am not attached to the coach or his staff in anyway so if they have to go in order to reach our goal then so be it. Next coach in then.

I think we could do better then we are doing and that is why this losing to inferior opponents all time is absolute BS.

Why do you keep phrasing this as if it is a life or death situation? You're not on the team brah, so stop acting like your (and our) attitude towards the game makes a difference. You're a keyboard commando, not a guy training to fight Apollo Creed.

ummm, Yep!!!
"Glad I called that guy!"
Post of the Year right there-uh-uh-uh!

I agree witht he OP. I'll say again, show me the recruiting dynamo that Iowa has on staff. What I mean is, take Frank Martin at K. State for example. The only reason K. State has been able to land supreme talent is because of Frank Martin.

K State’s success during the first Snyder regime revolved a LOT around JUCO players. They were constantly losing guys after one or two years. You don’t build a long term program on JUCO players.

I'm tired of some fans accepting the loss and moving on like its ok to lose. I hate how Ferentz just puts the loss off like its - in his words "Just part of the game". He really has an attitude that promotes losing. There isn't any confidence or cockyness in that entire locker room and there definitely isn't any fire in our coaching staff. I love the Hawks but we aren't going anywhere in the national climb for supremacy.

There’s a difference between accepting and moving on. So in your eyes, KF has to throw tantrums in the postgame? He might be quite intense during practice for all we know. Even so, if you look down a list of coaches, you could name many who didn’t show a lot of emotion during or after games (Tom Landry, Tony Dungy, Joe Paterno to name a few). Have you ever seen a Joe Paterno postgame? He doesn’t show a lot of emotion either. I don’t believe it solves anything to act like Mike Leach or Mike Gundy in a postgame.

I think a lot of people put too much stock in how exciting an offense is going to be as a gauge of how successful recruiting will be. They put too much stock in whether or not a coach is exciting as to how successful recruiting will be. Keep in mind that you have to sell the parents too and they aren’t going to be as easy to sell with cockiness. Time and time again, I read about how players chose Iowa because, “it felt like home,†or “it just felt right.†Did anyone see the segment on Adam Gettis last Sunday night on the KF show? His mother was glad he came to Iowa and felt he wouldn’t have had a better experience anywhere else. That “experience†comes from the type of coaches we have and the type of players we recruit. I don’t put a lot of stock in stars or rankings anyway. Our staff has an eye for under-the-radar talent. Keep in mind that there are times when big time schools like OSU and Michigan and others don’t start to recruit some of these kids until after we make an offer to them. They know that if we are looking at them, there might be something there they might have missed.

I'm tired of people giving the excuse that we don't have a recruiting hot bed here in Iowa.

Before you go off, telling me there really isn't that much talent here, I'll agree with you.

Look at Michigan, Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Oklahoma. Hell, even Boise State.

Anyways, my main question is: Is there an actual recruiter/scout that is designated for the team? How much do KF/KOK/Norm recruit?

I know we have a conservative recruiting standpoint, but why the hell can't we recruit just like the above schools can?

I know they have the tradition and I know it's cold in the North.

I just wish the program would recruit aggressively and relentlessly ie. Fran.

Am I completely out of line to be wanting more from the recruiting standpoint of the coaching staff?

Thanks in advance for your opinions/answers.

I agree with HawkInGopherLand with his DaVinci code submission. It's not that we can't get people here we can't do it in football to win championships in the SEC! But we aren't in the SEC are we. Remember GEorge RAveling he recruited all world talent to Iowa City he just couldn't coach it. We've had enough Bowl Game wins..enough BCS bowl appearances and for kids looking for an NFL career the staff success is about the best in the country. We should expect better...kids buy off on certain things and if we arent' in tune with that that's our fault.

Iowa may very well sign 3 of the top 5 players from Illinois. We'll see. That ain't shabby.

You don't know what Ferentz thinks, or what he says to his players. I bet they had a really interesting week of preparation. Did you see UM go 3 and out on their first two drives, and did you see Iowa's beautiful first drive? Michigan loses again to Iowa.

I absolutely loved being at that game yesterday, seeing the fans and hearing how loud it was. The team played great, the atmosphere was fantastic, and it reminded me that we need to hang in there with this team and with this program.

Iowa had NEVER beaten Michigan three times in a row. Ever.

Iowa's defensive line will improve in the next few years, and although there will be ups and downs, I'm still confident that this is the right coach and the right approach.

Last year was certainly a disappointment, and losing to ISU and Minny sucked. However, Iowa still has relevance in November, and a big home game next week that is once again on national TV. Go hawks.

I would have to agree with racerhawk. Like I said earlier, showing the wrong kind of emotion isn't going to solve anything. I don't know why people get too bent out of shape about who they lose to. Sure I hate losing to ISU and Minnesota a little more than the rest because I think they are beneath us and I hate their fans a little more, but a loss is a loss, so they all suck. I'm a diehard fan, so I wouldn't feel any better if we had beaten Minnesota and lost to Michigan just because of their relative talent. It's not like that balances out the universe and makes losing more palatable.
