Time to get over Ulis

Fran is a good coach. Just look at what we did last season. The only freshman that we had that wasn't a developmental player was Gessel and he still has room to grow.

Iowa's roster is full of 2 and 3 star players. I would say most of our players are those 2 and 3 stars; Marble, White, and Basabe.

If Iowa makes the NCAA, which I expect nothing less, then you WILL see some bigger anamed recruits, like Ulis, commit in 2015.

Remember PG wasn't a major need in this class.

I'm over a 17 year old kid who fell for what that slickster Cali was dishing to him, probably centered on a delusional promise to make him ready for the NBA. Wouldn't be surprised if he ends up calling Fran, begging him to re-offer at some point.

Ullis was the one begging Cal for the scholarship offer, it was his dream to go to Kentucky, not the other way around.

Get over what? It isn't like he played and left, he just isn't coming, lots of players don't come to Iowa, but the ones that do are just fine.

Has anyone trolled over to the Kentucky boards? Are they even excited Ulis committed to them or is it a, "jeez, only a 4 star?".

I find it hard to believe that Jon Calapari was just an innocent bystander to the process.

Ullis: "Coach Cal, it's always been my dream to play for you at Kentucky!"

Calapari: "Well, if you insist. OK, sure why not!"

riiiiiight.

I believe in Fran and think recruiting will only get better as Iowa has more success. I think it's HUGE that Iowa make the NCAA Tournament THIS YEAR.. Another NIT this year I don't think does much to move us forward from where we are in terms of perception.

Let's be honest, Iowa is still at the point as a program where it can do well with the good in-state recruits, but out-of-state is still tough (in reference to 4-5* recruits). Outside of the state of Iowa, that good NIT run was more or less an after thought, at least when a recruit is choosing between us and schools like Kentucky and Michigan State. But hey, at least Iowa is in the conversation with these types of players these days. Under our last coach, a recruit like Ulis wouldn't have looked twice at us, or even once, for that matter.

Still, it stings missing out on Ulis.

I agree with ya. It sucks Ulis decided not to be a Hawk. But it's not the end of the world. If Iowa has the type of year most of us think they should have. I think recruiting will take care of it's self. Fortunatly PG isn't a need of ours going into next year. Getting him would have been a luxury type of get. (the kid hasn't signed with KY yet either....Just sayin haha)

I actually think it went something like this. (Some of this comes from this site and some from other sites like ESPN.)

Cal/UK went after Tyus Jones and Emmanuel Mudiay. In the mean time, Papa Ulis went to UK and started talking Tyler up. When Cal/UK whiffed on both Jones and Mudiay, they quickly turned their sites on Tyler and the rest, as they say, is history.

Just my 2¢ .. ..

GO HAWKS!!!

He put Kentucky in his final four without even having a Kentucky offer. He was Kentucky's backup to the backup plan at pg.
