Time to drop the Clones

I'm not sure what the ins and outs are as far as the contract with Iowa State, but in my opinion it is hurting Iowa by keeping them on the schedule. If the Hawks want to maintain national prominence, they need to schedule a lot tougher year in and year out. The Cyclones are a BCS team in name only, and playing them doesn't do anything to bolster a resume. I think everyone on here would agree they will almost never be a contender in the BIG 12. Look at Iowa's non-conference schedule in 2012. It's a joke. I would be fine with playing Iowa State every year if we always had another BCS non-conference opponent. But a FCS, 2 MAC teams and Iowa State is a joke of a non-conference schedule that will garner no respect nationally.

The rivalry is fun and all, but there is really no upside for Iowa to play the game.

Completely agree, lets get ISU off the schedule. Let's put a series together with Rutgers, Boston College or Maryland, some team such as. East coast exposure is a great thing to bolster recruiting in those areas.

Your premise is flawed. There is no benefit to Iowa scheduling difficult OOC games. Other than that....

Your wish won't happen. The series was initiated due to political pressures put on Iowa to resume the series. If ISU would decide it is not in their interest to continue the series then Iowa would probably agree to dropping the series. If Beebe comes through with the TV Revenues promised then ISU might not need the Iowa game for the financial reasons.

dont hold your breath. ISU doesnt even get paid for their televised games and has to play them all at 600pm...Beebe needs shot by his namesake

beating a big 12 team even ISU is better for us rather than a UNI or the MAC teams, etc. We need to keep them on the schedule and drop one of those instead, but this will all change in 4-5 years when the 9th conference game gets added.
