Time Crunch? What does the DC hiring time frame say about the decision?

I read that Barta said during the PC on Friday that they can't announce a replacement until at least two weeks after the job has been publicly posted, which it hasn't yet. That means it will be at least January 3 before we know who it will be.
This is a good point as well.

It's not a good point, it's the *only* point. They have to post the job whether they have someone in mind, and whether that person is from in- or out-of house.

It was never going to happen overnight, with Norm leaving one day and Mike Stoops coming in the next.

Actually, if true, it is the only point. If true, nothing else is indicated by the delay. Nothing.

They are required to post the position for two weeks or certain length of time. However, if he wanted, Kirk could appoint someone to acting DC position and then make it full time at end of deadline. No need to do that since Norm still on the job.

Kirk will take his time and make the selection as he sees fit.

You raise a theoretical possibility that is practically impossible. There is no way that KF would take Norm's last game away from him by appointing an "acting DC".

This is true whether KF hires from inside or outside and whether or not someone has already been selected.

I think Phil Parker will be promoted...and that no one else is/was being considered. It hasn't been announce because:

1. Recruiting isn't impacted...PP will be out recruiting anyway.
2. Norm is getting his last moment in the sun...since Phil is going to take over, there is no need to announce until after the bowl game.

Kirk's loyalty and reluctance to go outside his comfort zone precludes hiring the DC from outside.

I'd love Stoops or Aiken, though.

This is a good point as well. Since it's a state job they probably have to post it on the website and follow strict guidelines in terms of the hiring process. Someone should check to see if it's posted on the Iowa website. I might have to apply.

No real strict guidelines. The two week thing is really little more than a required formality to make people feel all warm and fuzzy that ample time was given for hiring on a position when the fact is in some cases like this it won't make a bit of difference in the actual search.

What does the time frame of the DC hiring decision say about the process? The longer this goes does it make it more or less likely that the hire is made outside the program? QUOTE]

What it says is you have to wait for the arizona cardinals to finish there season so ron aiken can be hired as the dc.

I think it's a done deal (Phil Parker) and it will be announced shortly after the bowl game. Norm is still on the job after all!

Couldn't resist, the song popped in after reading this thread amongst others today. Enjoy.
