Tim Williams (Samford transfer) visit

Per Jon Rothstein, looks like Williams will make a visit - seems like a good one. SOCON Frosh of the year, and then followed that up with a solid Sophomore campaign! PLUS, he is a Chicago native -- always good to maintain a Chi-town recruiting connection!!

My guess is that he was one of those "under-the-radar" type of players who went to a mid-major, but it is now apparent that he has a major D1 game/skill set. IMHO, he'd be a very good get.

He would be a great pick up. There are so many transfers any more. I don't think you can make it open season where they can play right away, but the extra year of eligibility would be nice...meaning that if you transfer, you sit, but you don't lose that year. In this case, he'd still have three to play two tho...unless they went to five years of eligibility. I dont see that tho

One thing I noticed about this kid is that he has improved each year. He "only" averaged 11 ppg in high school but then, at the D1 level, averaged over 14 ppg as a Frosh, then improved upon that stat by averaging 17.6 this past year. It is notable that he improved in FG% (54 to 60%) and FT% (68 to 75%) as well from his Frosh to Soph years.

With the huge increase of one and done's since new nba rule years back, I would like seeing the option of 5th year of eligibility strictly for men/women basketball. I think it would help balance out the issue a bit.

Williams met with McCaffery, Speraw, Dillard, Francis and (I think) Taylor this morning off-campus (when I saw them). He seemed to be enjoying his visit, as did his mom. He seemed to think one of the Herky On Parade statues was pretty cool. Well put-together looking kid. Carried himself well.

Didn't see him on a moped, though. Sorry.

Exactly my initial reaction without even seeing his stats. I just saw his transformation from the picture in post#1 to his picture in post#5 and I was sold.
I did figure it out finally.

According to hawkeye report he will be making his decision over the weekend between Dayton, New Mexico and Iowa.

Williams was definitely a late bloomer in HS. He did not generate a lot of buzz in HS, but was coming on at the end of his senior year. Isaiah Thomas still has good contacts in Chicagoland, and his local guys put him on Williams and he landed him at FIU. Would definitely help fill the void left by Aaron Whites/ Gabe's graduation. A year to work in the system and get stronger cannot hurt either. Close to home...I think he would be happy at Iowa also.

I agree...if you're going to leave a small conference why not try yourself at the big boy table where your family can watch you as well.

This is a HUGE benefit to getting a quality transfer. PLUS, he'd also provide great competition during practice to ready the team for the athleticism that they will face in the B1G. When compared to NM & Dayton - which conference would you rather play in? He will be able to face the best competition in the nation at Iowa. I'd think that we'd be the best landing spot -- but, you never know all the factors of a recruit's decision.
