Tim Polasek Sees Progress with Hawkeye Offensive Line

A cautionary note. It's nice to hear about the progress of Kallenberger and Banwart, but they are both underclassmen. We need to remember that Kallenberger is a underweight redshirt freshman who has yet to see the field. It's nice to see Bainwart in the mix, but he is a sophomore with little experience. Duwa is starting to look like a lineman, but is a long term project.

What is much more important is how well starters like Wirfs, Jackson, Render, and Reynolds progress. Levi Paulsen being out for the rest of spring ball, suspends his development for now.

This coach is awesome. Love how he accepts responsibility and makes no excuses. That's what winners do.
You know, when it comes to people who play music, there are two types, those who can read and play the notes and then there are musicians. Sounds like that is a phrase that wouldn't be lost on this coach.

I can't tell if you are serious. So what exactly does that mean when he says he is responsible? Did he get a bad performance review?

Or is it more a case of him saying, Oops, sorry, I will try harder next time. Now where is my $300k and bonus paychecks?

He says it's his job to coach better. Pretty tough to ask the players to improve, try harder, ect when you yourself aren't willing to.

We've just never learned to play against that 3-4 Wisconsin plays. We are so into assignment football and knowing your assignment with a particular formation...and Wisconsin just moves the back four guys all over the place with varying blitzes and stunts. Our guys look like they are saying, wait, what's he doing here I'm supposed to blocking that guy and before you know it...our back or QB is shaking off a bruise. In my humble opinion, the teams that have run the ball at Wisconsin, have lined up...and blocked whomever was in front them...simple power football inside the outside LB. You can't run outside against that team...the four LBs or whatever you call them can all run.

Polesak is definitely in a show me year. You have to give him a bye with losing two senior starters and replacing them with freshmen...but he's got more depth now...hopefully we can get healthy and stay that way. My question...with all the injuries we have...how could OSU go three years not losing an offensive linemen or something like that. The five that started...started every game...that was a crazy stat. Do I have that right?

I think Polesak has as much as admitted that there was a steep learning curve for him last season. Hopefully he really gets it going next year like the other second year starters.

I agree. Iowa didn't bring anything against Wisconsin's 3-4 defense last year. Hopefully Iowa will have both the zone blocking and some assignment blocking going into the next season.

They have yet to prove they can do it. Iowa has basically been stifled ever since they switched to 3-4. They damn well better figure it out.

Good for us we get them early this year at home. Could not have been scheduled any better. They will definitely try to confuse the hell out of whoever our new center is.

Definitely need to be better prepared for what Wisconsin's defense did to them.
My connections with Tyler Biadasz go back to middle school basketball tournaments when Amherst squared off with Cuba City and my nephew and many of my oldest son's classmates played against him. If you thought he was a badass when he pancaked Gervase in the open field you should have seen him on a basketball court. He kind of led with his elbows when he played the post. And he undercut one of our guards on the break and pretty much deposited him on the back of his head.

I do realize that Tyler plays offense for Wisconsin. Their OL tossed us around at times, too.

Both sides of the line!!! They pretty much ran all over us. Yeah we need to be able to move the ball, but we have to be able to stop them also.
That game didn't even look like we were in the same conference as them. That's what they do in non cons.

Get ready for the 340lb linemen on their OL. All are back. get rested boys.

Yup yup yup. Slow slow zone plays to the outside of the tackle just don't work against that. Go right at them between the guards and center. To run our slow zone plays would be just doing what they want us to. Now granted Wisky isn't bad and can defend that well too. But I think it's the better plan of attack as your mentioning for sure and then of course play action off of it.
