Tiger is definitely not back

btw if you want to find someone whos mentally soft its not tiger its phil. phil got off to a rocky start and was +8 yesterday + 4 on the back. he gave up.

tiger got off to a terrible start, buckled down and finished with 4 birdies.

Phil always mails it in come the 4th round when he's out of it. That's just how he's wired.

Tiger is almost back and he's more back than the last couple of years.

Golf is a funny funny game. It's literally shot to shot. Is Tiger better then 99 percent of the weekend hackers out there yes. Is he going to be the universal number one player in the world again. With him winning multiple majors a year. It sure doesn't look like it. But so what? It sure doesn't matter to me that one guy isn't head and shoulders above everyone. Having it be a crapshoot as to who's going to win any given weekend makes it more compelling to me.

the difference between tiger and everyone else is once tiger is completely back he will almost never miss cuts. every other golfer in the world has bad weeks and miss cuts all the time. tiger has a bad week and finishes top 25.

also even if tiger gets back to where his game is just as good as it was, he won't win as often as he did. the competition is so much better now then it was 5 years ago. if tiger doesn't pass jack it will be because of his own impact on young players

And his propensity to bang pron stars. Don't forget that too.

yea but that's a simple matter of risk vs reward

if I had to chose between being by far the greatest golfer that ever played or being arguably the greatest golfer that ever played and bang a bunch of porn stars, then I would be arguably the greatest golfer that ever played

Good point.

he's back to sucking

a bit extreme? no? He only sucked if you compare him to himself 5-10 years ago, otherwise, he was still "better than most" even when he struggled.

I HATE the whole "he's back" craze. NO-ONE will ever "get back" to where he was (comparatively to the field)....not because there can't be someone who is as good or better, but because the fields are WAY to big and diverse for a consistant log-jam at the top.

I am a unapologetic Tiger fan - GOLF fan....and even I will say it is unlikely he will break Jack's record in Majors.

Well, Tiger isn’t back yet, at least not mentally/confidence. For the first time I don’t think he can get to Jack’s record, this was as good of a chance as he might get….the last 3 holes on Saturday and the first 5 on Sunday did the damage, he was +8 in that stretch of 8 holes, not gonna win that way. If he could get close to his old short game…he would have had a 3-5 shot lead going into Saturday….I think he is just another top 5 or top 10 player going, probably will be for the next 5-8 years (barring injury of course), and I think he will win 1-2 more tournaments this year. I think he might have 1-2 Majors in him, but I think he might have needed this one to make a run at Jack.

…he did hold it together after going +6 in the first 8 holes though and actually played the next 12holes -3, so some positives…

you can trot out your stats and I'm not going to dispute them. What I saw this weekend is him giving up when he knew he wasn't going to win. I was just waiting for him to start limping and WD.

This man is a former dominant champion. Do you think he wants to play for top 20 every week? He is mentally tired out and his actual game is no longer dominant. The kids he inspired 10 years ago are kicking his butt.

really....…he did hold it together after going +6 in the first 8 holes though and actually played the next 12holes -3, so some positives…

...that's mental toughness friend...

This is wrong. Right now, Tiger is in a group with about 25 guys, and nothing about him stands out. His win at the Memorial had as much to do with others cracking under pressure as it did with him running away with that tournament. Like the other 24 guys in his group, yes, they can win on any weekend, but no, they probably won't.

I don't know how many times Tiger has to do what he did this weekend before people realize that he just doesn't have game anymore. People always talk about how the mental side has gotten to him. It's not just mental - he has no game. And he hasn't since 2008...yes, before the "personal issues."

.....

no sir, your wrong. "he has no game" ??? 1 of 2 players with multiple wins, in Tough fields.

Stats in golf, unlike most other sports....actually DO tell the story....go look up his.

you obviously do not know golf.

Winner winner, chicken dinner. This....at least for true golf fans...is what most want.

I have no idea what you are talking about because Tiger only had 3 birdies the entire round yesterday.

They were on holes 8, 14 and 17.

True, the point is the same....he played the last 12 in -3 after starting +6 after 5....relatively impressive given the situation...and course.

but a failure for him

there is a ridiculous double standard for Tiger, which is no longer relevant....

My word, I a huge fan of his and I am sick of the constant overanalysis by the golf channel, ESPN, and all the other "experts"

congratz you found a typo. the point still stands. you can learn more about a perssons mental toughness by what they do when **** goes wrong then when it goes right.

Impressive would have been doing it on Saturday when he needed it. Color me not impressed when he does it when he is completely out of contention.

And Duff- Would it be a good endorsement of Tiger's mental toughness that he smacked a camera while walking off the course after finishing his 3rd round? I mean **** was going wrong at that point big time for Tiger....Whar mental toughness then?
