Any word on Hutton? The halftime box score I saw didn't show him getting any pt. How did Dale Jones look?

Hutton got in late in the game. Not much else to say...
Jones played quite a bit, but I think Wagner probably plays more. Sorry, nothing really stood out to me with either of these two. I'm sure I missed some things when I was using the phone to comment...

can you elaborate a little. I have been watching Fleming for 2 years and felt he would make an immediate impact. Digging for info.

I was surprised how well he played defense and he seemed to be poised for a frehman on offense, most of the time. He plays with more energy than I expected, on both O & D. His shots weren't dropping, but I came away more impressed than I anticipated. Not expecting big things from him this year, but his junior & senior years should be excellent.

Woody still suffers from the same problem that's plagued him his entire career...he doesn't jump. He gets blocked by people a foot shorter than him. Disappointing

Wagner definitely has the strength to play the post. Wasn't all world or anything, but played better than Woody, so....

Agreed. Hoping the 3 forwards in '16 class can help us forget Woody's shortcomings.

Have to agree with Woody still lacking any type of explosiveness at the basket. He looks good in transition but he has to be one the easiest 7 footers to defend in the post. Got denied numerous times and it's Sioux Falls. He'll still be a contributor for sure, it's just disappointing to still be seeing that from him.

yeah I hate to dump on woody too bad, he does play good defense and his hustle is there...but his offense has just never come around. He doesn't really have a mid range jumper and his post up moves are pretty weak. I still go back to that Tennessee game from that play-in a couple years ago when he went off and looked like a force against those big guys. Only thing I can figure is it was just a fluke...sadly

Flemming looks like sophomore. His time at Oak Hill shows. He'll contribute. Really hope Ellingson doesn't end up being a practice all star. He looked hesitant at times, but he's got plenty of time to settle in which I think he will. Jones played but was just kind of there. Got a few rebounds. Didn't see Hutton until late, not sure why. Wagner is also a definite contributor to this team in the post which is a need for Iowa this year.

Jok's stroke looks pure and smooth. He's going to score a lot of points this year. Gessel and Clemmons both looked good. PG actually looks like a strength on this team. Uthoff is Uthoff but a little thicker this year. This senior class is really going to have to carry the majority of the load for this team to go dancing again. The talent is there though.

FYI, Wagner was NOT one of the first ones off the bench, it was Jones. Was at the game, my thoughts:

Gesell - Clear leader of this team, and I love him.
Jok - Was great, and we are going to need him to be.
Uthoff- Just kind of disappeared out there tonight, but is solid.
Clemmons - Same as Uthoff
Woody - Good God man, still can't make a layup. Gesell and Clemmons dunk easier than he does.
Jones- Did nothing
Flemming - He is gonna be one of the top 7-8, no doubt about. Pretty good game.
Ellingson - Seriously Fran?
Uhl- Didn't really even play, which was perplexing.
Williams - Some decent PT, didn't do much, was ok handling the ball.
Wagner- Sort of like a Reggie Evans. He is big and strong, but that's about it at this point.
Moss- Not much PT, couldn't tell anything.
Hutton- Same as Moss.
Baer- Looks absolutely like he shouldn't be playing D1 basketball, but was actually pretty effective. Has a nice 3 pt stroke. Was interesting he was in lineup before any of the freshman.

Jones, Ellingson, Baer off the bench first. Then Flemming. Uhl was no where to be found? Then the rest.

This team is going to go as far as Gesell takes them.

Fleming will play. But Did anyone else notice how Fleming's shot is thrown from in front of him, instead of a normal shot from over the top? That will make him much easier to defend, for certain. He seemed off, hopefully first game jitters. But he did still look comfortable out there for a Frosh. His overall game looked good...
Woody? ~Sigh~ It is just the first game. We will see ...
Jok has a shot. He seemed to be active on D. Or at least conscience. Keep it up!
Clemmons and Uthoff were there playing like it was a game that didn't matter. Too bad they didn't turn it up, and get the new guys some minutes...
Williams looked good with the ball in his hands. Seems to know when to take to the hole(AND he can), or distribute the ball... That will only get better. He needs to log a lot of minutes in these easier games...
Gesell looks good. Although he will never be able to take it to the hole. That seems like his only downfall, but a big one! If he can drain from outside at a better clip, that would be huge....
Wagner could be a man down low. Seems quick and strong.
Hutton, Moss and Uhl did not see enough.
Ellingson ? Don't know. Didn't see much out of those minutes played...
Baer will be something in his career as a Hawkeye. But he is 15 pounds and is another year away from contributing. But he will contribute , IMHO. Only a freshman. Redshirting is good in a lot of cases. BUT think about it, when would Any player EVER look worse with a 5th year?? Never. Ok maybe with a torn ACL... Wish we had Gabe.
Jones. Need to see more. Especially with his defense...

First game did not impress me. Seemed out of sync against a inferior opponent. But it is the first game. We will know a LOT more in 2-3 weeks

Huh? I'll have to watch the replay again. Pretty sure I saw Wagner & Ellingson being the first ones off the bench. Of course, I could have been wrong, I was busy trying to keep people updated with my phone.

FWIW Wagner was one of the first guys off the bench I saw as well. Granted I wasn't there but I remember Fran staying with his starters for a while then the announcers talking about Wagner coming in. I was feeding a baby at the same time I was watching but I'm pretty sure I remember seeing Wagner grabbing a rebound fairly early in the first half.

Your eyes are deceiving you...

In regards to Baer...
"He was the sixth player to come off the bench in the first half, following (in order) Brady Ellingson, Wagner, Fleming, Dom Uhl and Dale Jones."
