Thoughts regarding GT fans and players perceptions of Iowa

Reading the GT message boards (georgiatech.scout.com and stingtalk.com) as well as the GT player interviews, I get the feeling that the fans and players think that GT will score at will against Iowa. It seems that they are more concerned about their defense; however, they aren't very concerned because (as I've seen posted a few times), all GT needs is for their defense to get 2-3 stops and the GT offense will take care of the rest.

Even when listening to player interviews and they mention that Iowa has a good defense, when they talk about their offense, it seems like they don't think it matters how good a defense their opposition has because nobody can stop them.

Anyone else get this impression from GT fans and players? Anyone else think they're in for a big surprise?

I registered for Stingtalk.com so I could spread some Hawkeye literature around the board but they still haven't approved my registration. I signed up like a week ago. >_>

I'm concerned too. Teams have run on us out of a traditional set (Michigan and Ohio State. Iowa State ran on us to, more so out of the spread). I'm very concerned about what the triple option will do. Hopefully the long time off will help.

I believe the SEC teams we have previously faced in bowl games we surprised, so it figures that GT is probably in for a surprise. Almost any team that faces Iowa in a bowl game is in for a surprise as to how good and how quick that defense is. If our offense can get going, look out, 'cause its gonna be a good night for the Hawkeyes.

GT fans have good reason to believe in their offense...only two teams have shut them down.

I'm not saying that GT shouldn't feel good about their offense, but Iowa does have statistically better (albeit slightly) rushing defenses than both teams that shut down GT's rushing attack this year (Iowa 30, Miami 33 and Georgia 35).

And neither Georgia nor Miami had as much time as Iowa to prepare for GT's offense. Yet, Sean Bedford would have you believe that no amount of time can prepare you for GT's offense ([ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPzOxptH4CY"]YouTube- Sean Bedford[/ame]).

Jon - have you seen many transcripts, video or audio of GT players? I have not and am wondering if maybe you can direct me to some (I've seen, for example, Rob Howe's stuff: Scout.com: Pre-Orange Bowl: VIDEO - G-Tech Players) but nothing from, for example, Paul Johnson other than the joint KF-PJ press conference interview after the BCS bowl games announcement. Any additional info would be great.

It's not the D I'm worried about against their O...but StanzINT is back and if he makes mistakes to keep our D on the field it would appear to me that they have the type of attack that just wears down defenses over the course of a game...so I guess I'm more worried about how our offense is going to affect our Defense than GT's Offense is going to affect our defense

Count me as concerned about our D v. their O. As others have noted, we haven't exactly shut the run down this year as we have in years past. The Michigan read option success v. us is just nagging at me. And we all know what OSU did against us with their run. What gives me confidence is I know we have great defensive coaches who have a knack at great game planning, and improving that game plan as the game progresses. We also have big, fast and strong defensive players who have proven themselves to rise to the occasion numerous times.

Agreed. I am much more worried that our offense will come out and perform like...well, our offense, than I am GT running it up on us.
