Thoughts on the game tonight

Does anyone know why Fran went ballistic at the end of the game? It was after Gatens missed a 3, and Cole tipped it in, was he mad at Gatens?

It looked like he was ****** at Gatens. If I had to guess it would be because of his poor shot selection on his last 3. I think Fran is trying to teach the kids how to win and how to handle pressure. That shot certainly wasn't a good shot.

Basabe is still fighting illness. Yes, he was ineffective because of that, but don't be saying he was "lost".
Didn't mean to hurt your feelings. I didn't know he was sick, but he did look lost out there, hope he is feeling better and back to his normal self soon.

I think everyone knows we need an infusion of athletic quick length on this roster, but I do not think the inside hurt us as much as our perimeter defenders...we have held our own inside on rebounding and scoring, really, thanks to Jarryd, and Melsahn...but when we do not guard Billy Cole on the perimeter,he will shoot the three well...same with JR Richardson and McCamey. Good effort by the Hawks tho.

It looked to me like he was getting excited about Cole's effort and tip but hard to tell with him. Not sure why he would be mad at Gatens because he was just trying to get a 3 up as time was running out and the game was essentially over at that point.

Jeff Peterson is also doing pretty well as a PG at Arkansas.

GlidingHawk

Yep still a turnover waiting to happen 30 assists and 25 turnovers and I believe he is the backup. Watching Arkansas a couple times this year, he is on the bench in any critical situation.

Cartwright: 58 assists and 37 turnovers...since being inserting in the starting lineup he has 15 turnovers.

We are short on talet to win in the big ten. I know we just want to compete at this point and that's a start but the next step is to win. Recruiting will be the difference maker.

Cully being inured has been a blessing in disguise. Cartwright is our starting PG this year and next.

Gatens and McCabe aren't athletic enough and don't have enough talent around them to make it in the big 10. My comparison is Blake Hoffarber for Minn. He's not that athletic but has a quick release and has enough athleticism around him that can penetrate and kick to him to get him the shots.

We are short on talent, but we have talent, just need to continue to add to what we have. The freshman/JC class is contributing 3rd most of any recruiting class in the BT this year behind OSU and Michigan's.
Cully was hurt from game one, it isn't a blessing, we need him agree or not. It would put Marble back in his natural position and get him more playing time.
Gatens has more talent than you give him, he just scored 21 pts against Illinois best defender most of the night. Gatens needs to utilize the ball fake and bounce more for the pull up jumper. Much better overall than Hoffarber.
McCabe needs to relax and quit shooting every "open" shot, the game will slow down for him and he will be fine. McCabe played very good defense last night on Ill. bigs when he was in.
All the talk about Iowa's frontcourt being a negative is crazy, they play hard and hold their own. It would be nice to have a 6'10" or taller guy, but I don't have issues with what we have.
Ball security and free throws are what is killing this team. I would like to see Iowa incorporate the mid-range game much more with Gatens/May, more high percentage shots. May hit one last night early and played aggressive until he started missing FT's.
What Iowa lacks is another scorer that can be right there with Gatens every game, not the point total, but consistently 15-pt scorer, May can be that guy, but he needs his confidence back.
The frontcourt players need to rebound, contest shots and score when the easy opportunities present themselves. The frontcourt has done not done all of those game in and game out, Basabe was doing this until he got sick, hopefully he gets healthy.
