For the most part I thought Stanzi looked very good. Although it seemed most of the passing plays were quick easy passes, not all but most.
His one deep ball he over threw a bit, which most likely would have been a touchdown. Seems like last year he didn't miss the deep ball much, and yes I know it was game 1, so it may have just been getting back into game speed. He did throw a perfect ball to Sandeman down the seem, but then he fumbled.
The one thing that concerned me was on one of his plays he looked to the left and nothing was open, and it was almost like he stood there thinking to himself what to do next. Did anyone else notice that? On the plus side he did not force the pass, which he probably would have tried last year. Vandenburg looked great, came into the game cold and played like he had started the whole game, that takes some pressure off, having a solid backup QB.
Brett Morse is a MAN. On one of ARob's TD runs to the left, Morse blocked one guy then after that guy was taken out of the play he ran and dove at another and took him out of the play, I was very very impressed with his blocking. I think with Jewel in the backfield and his quickness, he's going to be able to cut off Morse for some huge runs.
Both Tight ends were solid, always are it seems.
Adam Robinson is also a MAN. One person couldn't take him down, yes it was EIU but still, his quick spin move seems to throw people off a bit, I think ARob and Jewel are going to be a great combo.
DJK is going to take one to the house, soon. He seemed to just be 1 move away, I think he may get it against ISU.
D-Line looked great, triple teams on Clayborn are not going to work with our depth there. Ballard was EVERYWHERE, he just about picked off that pass he knocked down. Klug and Daniels got some great penetration also. With Daniel being able to compete at a high level like the other 4, I think he will be able to keep everyone fresh and not have a drop off in talent when he comes in.
Linebackers- I really dont think they did much, our Dline ate up the run, they did bite on a play action pass or twp though. Our Linebackers will need to be HUGE against ISU with everything spread out and that option they run, but I really didnt get a good feel on how good our backers are that game, having very few big plays though was a plus.
I liked Sash and Greenwood, they both came up and stuck people, I think that's something they both needed to do in order to get a chance at the NFL, prove they can come up and hit.
Corners i thought were good, Hyde did get beat deep on one play, but I think Kirk will coach him up this week, and prater will probably be back to sure up the corner spot.
Donahue had that great punt, the less punts he gets the better it is though, as much fun as it is to see him punt, I'll be happy if he never sees the field!
and last but not least THEY RAN THE JAILBREAK! It didn't go well, i think the lineman ran into DJK, but still I love that play and with our athletic receivers it could be huge this year
