Thoughts for today's game

We appreciate your input Ghost, but nobody is referring to "hype" or Fran running his mouth about Gabe. Now please go back into your cage. Your dribble is getting kinda old.

Are you kidding me? Everyone talks about the hype Fran gives him. This entire thread is based on the premise that Gabe is a great player in practice, which is a rumor started when Fran started hyping his guy.

Like I said, you believe Fran's words or your own eyes. Or better yet, you can believe the way Fran plays him. He gave GO 15 minutes against a garbage team, which is more than the previous 4 games combined (which, coincidentally, were competitive).

I can see that from in my cage. Why do you refuse to acknowledge this? Not hating on the kid, but truth is truth. He's not a player.

I think it's fair to write he's done well in practice based on both his coach's and teammate's comments; also, based on Fran trying to give him time.

Based on the change in starting lineup, he likely would have been a DNP if the game remained tight.

The other "truth" is the kid plays Woodbury toe to toe in practice. Not a rumor. Not hyperbole from Fran. Not my imagination. Simply fact. Is it translating into positive things on the court? Duh....no? Ever hear of kids / players who were terrific practice players but when the lights turn on they couldn't bring it? Just might be the case with Gabe, then again it might be because of nerves / etc and with experience he might actually become more productive. Is he a "player" right now? Duh....no? Kindly stop the nonsense with insinuating I'm falling for all of the hype crap that we hear.

how the hell do people on here know what Gabe looks like in practice? how about we go by how they look in the game. i'm sure JVB looked impressive in practice this year too...

Fran definitely exaggerates but I doubt he flat out lies. If you tone down what he says about Gabe, it would make you think he is an ok player in practice that gets nervous in games.

It's not like he plays him the whole game while Woddy rides pine then sights good practice as an excuse like Kirk did. He gets him a couple more minutes a game that he doeant deserve right now to try to get him going.

who says he plays Woody "toe to toe"? humm...is that a rumor perhaps...

just so you know, that's called "making stuff up".

are you a player on the team? little lick infiltrating the hawk message boards?

i don't doubt that Fran sees some talent and athleticism in him in practice. but that "knack" for knowing where to be and when to be there, esp with D and rebounding, just isn't there. might get there though. and i hope he does. it's just funny that some make sure a big deal out of a kid who won't play much at all in the conference game unless people foul out.

DANG! how'd you figure out I'm little Lick? Meatman. You post alot on here and come across as a good dude. Believe it or not, there are people on this earth other than the 12 or so kids on the team that just might have a clue about things. that's not me being a moron to you nor suggesting i'm Mr know it all. It's simple fact. take it how you wish.

just saying, are we supposed to take anonymous internet guy's word for it, or what we see on the court? easy for you to say he is just as good as Woody in practice. sorry, but i'll stick with what i see.

I really don't think people are making that big of a deal over Gabe. I just think some people are wanting him to get just a little more play time in hopes that he is actually a decent player that needstime to adjust to playing in front of crouds. I for one thing Fran is giving him the exact right amount of minutes. As many as possible without hurting the team.

Has anyone ever heard of a decent basketball player who was too nervous to perform in games? This is such a bizarre excuse to use. How is it not more insulting than what I have been saying?

Ghost. Who rattled your cage again? Dear Jesus. Play ghost and disappear already. Nobody is insulting anybody by the name of Gabe thankyou.

Yes or no. Have you ever heard of a decent player who was unable to perform because of "nerves" in real games?

Plenty of guys who hit like hell in the minors but once promoted to the majors couldnt hit the side of a barn. Or guys that stroked it in the NBA developmental league but not the NBA. Or guys that were studs in college athletics but couldnt cut it in the pros. Wanna name? Luke Harangody. Stud at Notre Dame but has yet to cut it with Boston or Cleveland. is it nerves? not enought talent? both? But to address your question, it's not like these guys (specifically Harangody as my example) are not "decent players". To not call Harangody a decent player is ********. You seem to forget that the game of basketball is new to Gabe which is also coming into play here. Lay off the kid and let's give him this season to gain some experience and then see what we've got. Whether you wanna admit it or not, he's the most athletic big we have.

Only thing I could tell for sure from this game: Texas Pan American Corpus Christi (or whatever the hell they were called) is horrendous.

Dontrelle Willis is the only one that comes to mind for me.

Nerves might be oversimplifying it. But I'm sure it's not hard to find a decent player who, for whatever reason, can't put things together when it counts. Plenty of guys have all the physical tools to succeed and just don't come through. That happens all the time, at just about every level.
