Thoughts for today's game

This 9-10 man rotation stuff is a joke and will never work agaist a decent team.

I would agree with this. Today is a good day to get minutes to guys as this team doesn't seem to be a real threat. Going forward I think they'll probably still get 9-10 players in, but some players are going to see reduced minutes.

Basabe and Woodbury are leading scorers at half.

Basabe leads with 15pts/4rebs in 8 minutes. Woodbury 11pts/4rebs 13 min and just 1 foul. Gesell 4pts/4assists

agree Iowa doesn't have that many good players. Why play inferior players, these kids are 18-22 years old and in the best shape they will ever be in. There is no need to play 10 deep, especially on this team where the talent is not that deep.

This is not true. Who says this is true. There is NO WAY this is even a little true.

No. He struggles because he is not very talented. If he has a confidence problem, it is because he's not good.

So your saying Fran doesn't know what he's talking about, I suggest he does and you like to hear yourself talk way too much

Iowa up 44-23 at halftime. Why do we even schedule these kinds of games? How do they help the team grow?

Well what has been true about what Fran has said so far. It's not like Iowa has played anyone good so far this year and Gabe still has not done anything. I guess you just think he will magically improve playing way better competition in the Big 10 because that is so likely.

Ghost likes to talk and is not right all the time. I guess Ghost just refuted your narrative which doesn't make any bit of sense. The competition has not been good so far. I don't get why you think Gabe will shine playing better competition once the Big 10 season starts if he has not looked better against this weak non conference schedule. Sometimes people just need to be realistic about players. Like people expecting Eric May to develop a dribble drive game. If you knew anything about basketball you could tell from day 1 Eric struggled to dribble and what is ceiling should be. I expect Gabe to have a ceiling of a athletic guy who is disruptive on D with his length and a monster on the glass. This is all I expect and will be happy if he can ever provide 15 minutes a game doing this against top notch competition. Since I called it his ceiling I will not be like other idiot's and get made if he never reaches the ceiling. Be realistic and you will never be upset with players.

Please learn to read. Where did I say he was going to shine against better competition? I simply said he is playing very well in practice and needs playing time to build confidence.

Lot of derp in herr

Woody looked good in the post. GO had a few nice passes and continues to makes his FT. RDMJR 3 point stroke continues to improve. Kyle Denning is better then Branden Stubbs. Were 12 deep!

My thought on today's game is......glad its over.....Not impressed with Olesani....I agree with another poster, he needs minutes, but today he looked tired for some reason....idk what the answer is, but glad to see that we have some tougher scheduled games next week....you might see a shorter leash on some of these players.....and maybe keeping it to 7-8 players...jmo for what that's worth (probably not much :D)

I have been saying for years that Franny likes to blow a lot of smoke to hype up his players, and you can't believe everything he says.

That being said, people here said Olseani needed more minutes. He played 15 minutes today against a one win Southland team. Anyone super impressed? Anyone think he still needs more minutes to gain confidence?

Look you can argue with me all you want, but I am not here to hate on anyone. But believe what your eyes are telling you, not what the hype says. Olesani is simply not a very good player and we cannot expect him to contribute much of anything this season.

I think Gabe did enough in practice to get a shot: it hasn't worked out though.

As a coach, you see things in practice that give you hope in a player. Unfortunately, there is a huge mental/ physical gap from practice to play.

For instance, you can tell AWood has played probably a 1000 games; it it equally apparent GO has not. Long term, I still have hope for a contributor.

Hopefully we are transitioning to a basic 4 player post rotation with White, AWOOD, Basabi, and McCabe

Actually he did start looking better towards the end of the game. I think it's pretty obvious that he's not a great player but it is conceivable that he is more nervous playing in games then most people are. Once those nerves settle, he could improve drastically. I'm not saying it will happen, just that it might.

Dang near impossible to argue with this, guys. I've been pulling for the kid, too, but the way he leaves his feet on defense and gets pinned on his man's hip, together with his lack of offensive refinement, will make it hard to justify giving him many minutes after we hit B1G play. I bolded "this season" above because things may click for him, and Fran definitely sees potential in him. But it'll be hard to make more than baby steps in season.

We appreciate your input Ghost, but nobody is referring to "hype" or Fran running his mouth about Gabe. Now please go back into your cage. Your dribble is getting kinda old.

how the hell do people on here know what Gabe looks like in practice? how about we go by how they look in the game. i'm sure JVB looked impressive in practice this year too...
