This team is who we thought they were

after the IU game and roller coaster year, Im ready for it to end, but am excited with this young team and incoming players for next year. Man, I hope we can make a run at the Big 10 regular season title.

We didn't play our best but Indiana played very well tonight and I don't think anyone would argue that the Hoosiers have talent and it all clicked tonight.

Sometimes you just catch a team at the wrong time. Just ask Maryland or Wiscy.

Pemsl and joboh had good games. Cook took some good looks and came close to some nice blocks but tough match up. Too bad no one else really shines to make up for Baer /jok struggles.

They should turn down the NIT. It's not acceptable. I hope no one shows up to the first round game assuming it's at home.

I thought Moss looked pretty good for a freshman. He played great defense. He had two turnovers, but five steals. Next year Iowa is going to need a guy with his defensive capabilities. He will score his points too.

The over reaction here is as expected just disappointing - i realize it's mostly trolls ... where were the most of you the last 2 weeks?

Call me crazy but I think additional games and practice for a core group of freshman is a great opportunity. Besides, if we like this team and like basketball, why not be excited about an opportunity for them to play more games. Sure it's nowhere near as exciting as the Big Dance, but its sure as hell better than sitting on my but watching everyone else's seasons continue and waiting for next year.

Going into the season I thought they were a marginal bubble team with peaks and valleys. Turns out they were exactly that

Looking back, I think what ultimately ended up killing Iowa were those early season non conference games. They were too green and Fran had no idea what his team/rotation would look like. Its the biggest problem with losing so many senior starters...you cant know how all the new pieces fit until you get into the season. The young guys also had no idea how to play defense. Look back now at some of these losses:

vs Seton Hall - gave up 91 points. Uhl 25 minutes, Bohannon 19 minutes, Moss 2 minutes, Pemsl 6 minutes.
vs Memphis - gave up 100 points. Uhl 26 minutes, Moss 2 minutes
vs ND - gave up 92 points, first game without Cook
vs Omaha - gave up 98 points, no Cook

In those 4 losses Iowa averaged 85.5 points per game and still lost all 4. 85 points should be enough to win every NCAA game.

Disappointed about the NIT but selfishly, I am looking forward to see Peter Buckets play at home again. Every game here on out counts, Pete's going to need to go off. Pack it in Carver. It's going to be loud!

Go Hawks!
