This team is better than last year's.

Weren't those same guys on the floor last year too and they couldn't get it done then? They suddenly became "clutch" over the summer?

Players do improve over the off season. It is pretty obvious that JU is playing with more confidence. Gane and Woody have developed a stronger post game. Clemmons probably has had the biggest confidence jump from last year. We will have to wait and see how the season develops before knowing who is clutch.

The hawks don't need to prove it to me. Ballhog Marble is gone, I'm going to try to power it inside and get called for a charge McCabe is gone and no show melsahn is gone. Now we have shooters who love distributing the ball on the court. It's going to be a fun season.

1. Wisconsin
2. tOSU
3-7 Some combination of Iowa, Nebby, Mich, MSU

OSU has quite a bit of talent, definitely an upgrade from last year. Really unimpressed with MSU last night, no depth and no bigs. Indiana looks like an NIT team. Michigan has some new faces, Lavert will be a B1G POTY candidate though.

I like the overall balance of this Iowa team. At the end of games last year, it seemed like everyone deferred to Dev way too much, and I think this team has enough options in those situations to beat you any number of ways.

This is what I'm hoping for as well. It certainly seems to set up that way. Last year it was almost like the rest of the team just stopped to watch RDM do something. Gesell had some games where he was trying his butt off at the end, but boy he really struggled at the free throw line. He's just a kid that I like to root for so I really hope he figures out how to calm down and execute in crunch time. I'm hoping between JU, MG, PJ, and JO that they can find someone to hit big shots because AW, Woody, and even Olaseni are pretty solid at knocking down their free throws. If that first group I mentioned can hit big shots and the second group can knock down their free throws I firmly believe the nucleus is their to pull out some big wins.

I think people jump to conclusions way to early. What if we had played Texas the first game and lost by 5-10 points? People would be like.. Man we really miss Marble or McCabe's tougness. Man Basabe would have played better Defense inside etc..Its nice to be excited again about Iowa basketball but i just think some of you are setting yourself up for a meltdown later. KCCO Hawkeyenation
No one misses anything that Mccabe did except for his killer hip toss against Msu... That was totes

Yes .. These are the same guys .. .. except they are a year older, a year stronger, a year more seasoned. That, in and of itself, makes them more clutch. Like everything else, experience makes them better and being stronger makes them more dangerous. Too often, people discount what experience brings to the table.

So Mike, I respectfully disagree that these are the same guys as last year. Tomorrow (Thursday) night will show how far this team has come from the end of last year. If it's a blow out for Texas, well then the Hawks have some work to do. If it's a close game either way, then I believe we're on the right track.

GO HAWKS!!!

Its not uncommon at all for guys to get significantly better when they become upperclassmen.

Marble and Matt Gattens would be pretty easy examples although Marble never was clutch.

While some will likely remain fairly similar to what they were last year a couple guys on this team are very likely to make significant jumps.

Uthoff, Jok and Woody are obvious contenders based on the way they ended the season and you can apparently add Clemmons which is a surprise.

Yes, Iowa is so much better with no NBA prospects this year....those talented NBA types totally screw us up....just look at the Lick years...we had no one,and we flourished.

I would say there are some prospects on this team.

I do think last years senior class moving on is going to be a good thing overall but we will see.

Im gonna go ahead and get really excited and expect big things before they "prove it" because it makes no difference what I or any of us think.

Experience certainly counts, Brue, this team has learned from the fail at the end of the season and also how to stay focused at the end of game with a lead. I am certain that Fran and the Staff have pounded that into the team relentlessly.....

Tomorrow is a true test, but I do have faith in this team.....

They proved it for 2/3 of last season and what did that do for us? I'm sure not going to wait until the season's over to get excited. I'm already excited as a mother ******.

This is where I think you are wrong. Right now it looks like there are three or four options on the floor in the starting rotation who could get the late basket(s) you need, including the winning one. I don't think you could say that last year. That's not a rap on RDM -- well, it sort of is -- but last year every opponent knew who Iowa looked to be clutch in the closing moments. Most of the time he wasn't.

Still think we have three or four options who can score at the end of games?

Got to shoot better than last year's team to be better than last year's team.

I know it's early but the first test of being a good shooting team is a "fail". Hopefully it won't be for long

That is all.

What makes you think that? Did we watch the same game? Our guards can't get off a shot sans marble. If Dickerson can step in and start and play a respectable point, then I would agree. If not, I don't see any better than last year, possibly worse.

Texas has the better team. Iowa will end up having a good year. There won't be many, if any, teams that Iowa will play as athletic as Texas. I can see why Fran is recruiting athletes for next year.
