This Season To Date

This season has been a revitalization for Iowa basketball so far. Coach McCaffery has brought a style of ball all of us fans like to see. Uptempo, fastbreak, press and different defensive styles.
The negative has been too many turnovers and lack of decent PG play. Cartwright being forced into the starting lineup may not be a negative when it is all said and done. Eric May is a scorer, but he turns the ball over too much and needs to improve his ball handling significantly. Marble has been a player fun to watch for me, all along he has been capable of playing the PG position and needs more game time there.
Against WF, I was shocked to see Basabe score the way he did, hopefully there is more of that in the future.
The Center position needs to pick it up on the boards, Iowa is giving up too many offensive rebounds. I think LBSU had more offensive rebounds than they had defensive rebounds, not good.
There are fans that still have issues with Archie/Brommer, but cut them a break for two reasons: 1. Both players have had little coaching to date and 2. Each is a Jr. and if they don't progress we only have them in the program for one more year.
McCabe wants to be a Jess Settles type of player, he can, but he has to cut the turnovers out. McCabe was the most ready freshman at the start of the season, but he may be the third best one at this point. Time will tell he is still high on the team rankings for scoring and rebounding.
Iowa overall has to stop fouling so much and losing the FT battle.
All in all this season has started off as a good building block to the future. There is a lot more talent on this team that has not hit its potential, but they are young and are growing up on the fly.
One fear that is there is that when the B10 season starts that Iowa starts to get blown out and wins less than four games. That would be a bigger setback than having players tranfer, which should not happen.
