This mess all started in 2005

Norm will remain as defensive coordinator as long as he wants. Ferentz will even carry him to Kinnick if need be. You don't ask or demand best friends to retire let alone replace them.

And therein lies a major problem. KF is letting friendship getting in the way of what has to be done to have the best football program he can have.

SCORING STATS DON'T MEAN SQUAT!!

You do understand that the team that scores more points wins the game, right?

You do understand, regarding your OP, that we play a base contain defense and linebackers generally don't get sacks in that system, by design?

You do understand we were #22 nationally in scoring defense in 2005, in addition to the Top 10 finishes mentioned?

Let us know when you're ready for more advanced topics. Happy to help.

(Asking people if defense is Iowa's main problem makes a near-perfect IQ test: YES = double-digit, NO = triple-digit)

Yeah. If we didn't have so many draft picks that lil old Iowa argument would work. Obviously our staff does a great job of teaching individuals, but getting these guys to play as a unit has been a struggle the past few seasons.

The staff is stubborn and I have to wonder if losing Philbin and Aiken were really the problems. Our OL hasn't been worth much since he left (minus a Bruggeman led 2008 line) and our DL really hasn't been much save Clayborns big jr year.

Point is the whole team and coaching philosophy is stale and we won't improve until the staff makes changes
