This Kid Could Be VanSumeren's Replacement

If the kid can play what does it matter? As noted above we swung and missed with Jewell, Greenway and others. Using that logic should the only players in the NFL be from a P5 conference?

I was referring to Jewell, who was going to go to Luther before Iowa offered. I was being sarcastic.

I always get a chuckle out of posters here that scream bloody murder that we cannot use LB's to cover receivers.
Of course, everybody in major college football, the NFL, and on my grandson's UW-Platteville team uses LB"s to cover receivers because the option would be to not cover them at all. Iowa, along with most power 5 schools, have gone to smaller, faster LB's at, at least one, if not all, LB possessions. Think: Spread O's. How many times to you hear that teams' O coordinators try to scheme situations where they isolate LB"s on slot receivers or Running Backs? Pretty much all the time these days.

When Kirk is fighting with JUCOs for top talent...his star really shines
You mean the JUCOs people are constantly complaining we don't take advantage of?

Call me an optimist, but I'd be much more worried if we were targeting a low level WR or RB. As for LBs, Phil Parker and the defensive staff have done enough of the heavy lifting for me to give them a pass now and then. I'd wager both Cox and Benson receive a lot more attention now that Iowa has targeted them, as lots of coaches around the country trust our staff's eye for talent. Hell, ISU and Minny offer everybody we even blink at. I also wonder if the early signing period has thrown a wrench into the evaluation process. Everyone is trying to get a complete analysis of the guys who are signing early, while these guys, who are often late bloomers with big senior seasons, are going to be focused on during the next period.
