Yeah, nature and nurture both seem to contribute, not a "conscious choice." But ultimately, we do consciously control how we behave. What everybody seems scared to admit is that this is about how the community feels about the behavior. Saying you were born to do something the community is opposed to, even if true, isn't a compellng argument in favor of it. This is true of all sorts of behaviors.
