We need the following type of PG to step in immediately next year. This means we likely need to get him from the JUCO ranks.

The type of PG that we need for immediate benefit is one that is a superb ball handler, that can drive and beat his defender going either right or left, but then is a superb passer to be able to dish to the wing.

We do not need this type of PG to be a scorer.

I have got to believe there has to be a PG in the JUCO ranks that can fill this role, even if he scores < 3 points/game. Scoring is not what is needed, but rather a ball handler, penetrator, disher.

There is a PG at DMACC, i said in an earlier post. he is very small, like 5-6 or something, but is quick and a very good ball handler! He is from SE Iowa, and he seems to be playing well, all the highlights i have seen of the kid, he looks pretty good. But is he is playing JUCO ball, so ya never know?

Cully Payne is the type of PG wants for this system. I like what Payne brings.
If we need a slasher that can get to the hoop, the Hawks needs to look for a 2 or 3 guard to go that. Lickliter has his man with Payne,

I like alot of what Cully brings as well, but he does not meet the prerequisites of this thread. I won't go into specifics as I do not wish to pick at Cully.

Lick can't just recruit anybody. He needs a special type of point guard that fits his system otherwise the kid will be wanting to fast break, take it to the basket, all kinds of things that point guards usually want to do.

Lick needs a point guard that penetrates a few feet and dishes to the open man so they can shoot a three but only after we hold the ball for 30 seconds. Most point guards are not used to that style and are confused (see previous points we had before they transferred) and end up dribbling too much, which makes Lick angry because he wants them to pass it around the perimeter before the guard penetrates a few feet and dishes to the open man and fires up a three at the last second.

So you see, Lick can't just recruit ANY point guard. He needs a very special point guard that just fits his system. That means most point guards won't fit.

I know NewMex, we'd hate to have a point guard that would run. Just hate the percentages of a 3 on 1 break. I'd rather slow it down and jack a three with seconds left on the shot clock.
