3rd game - Score 27 points against UNI
Wisconsin - 26 points
Youngstown State - 42 points
N Dakota State - 33 points

4th Game - Score 31 points against C Michigan at home. Other BCS teams?

5th game - We score 31 points on Minnesota
Best offensive game of the year and more points than anyone else had scored on them.

So the offense has had 4 really bad games out of 5. BUT, it looks to be getting better and if we can continue to run the ball with effectiveness, we can really set up our play action and take pressure off JV. Defense is good enough to go in and get us a win.

24-20 HAWKS!!!

If you haven't seen any improvements then I'm not sure what you're watching. I think we will see big offensive improvement after the week off. I agree with you about play action, it could open up.

Some improvement against a pretty weak schedule........tomorrow will be the true test but unless they can pass the ball with consistency I think it will be a very long day for the Offense.

That's the gist of my thoughts on it. We gave up 6 sacks that game, and how many since? 0 or 1, I believe. The offensive line has really improved in not only pass blocking but run blocking and I fully expect that to continue. No way we'd have a realistic shot to win tomorrow(and we do, although, I think we probably lose a close game) if this offense was what it looked like the first couple of weeks. We're not where we want to be but given that we have a new OC, a new OL coach, AIRBHG- his usually merciless self, and we lost out "go-to" receiver we were going to start out slow offensively. Yeah, I definitely thought the passing game would be better than what it's been, but we're showing improvement. My hope is that during this bye week the QB and receivers got on the same page(KF didn't allude to that directly but said we'd had a productive week of practices last week*fingers crossed*). If we can maintain the OL improvement and get the passing game around where we expected it to be then we're going to put up some points on people. It can't hurt that we'll start to get some RB's healthy this week. Maybe that will help diversity the run game from "The Juggernaut" to sometimes being more elusive. Give defenses different looks...something that against a strong, physical MSU defense we'll likely need.

FWIW-we also scored more points against Minnesota than anyone else had all year...and that game was effectively over in the second quarter.

Tomorrow is the wake up call for the OL. This is the first game where they are playing top 5 to 10 defense. They are legitimate, their schedule is legitimate...and their experience is legit. If we can move them off the ball and establish a running game against this team...we can do it against anyone. It's going to be very interesting to watch and this is going to be a very very physical football game. When you add in the top RB's and the FB's on each team, there is some serious beef laying lumber tomorrow. Honestly, I like our mental makeup better...we have something to prove and there is no doubt Brian Ferentz is establishing an identity with the OL. They will be up for the challenge tomorrow. The question is, are they good enough to get it done. I have no doubt this OL will be really good by the end of the year, and next year, they have the opportunity to be absolutely dominant in the trenches. Are they ready for the next step right now???...tomorrow will provide some answers.

That's a good point. I'm no huge fan of Vandenberg, but the emergence of Weisman could really open some thing up in the passing game.

Other than ISU(who is pretty average) Im not sure if any of those teams have a defense, making it hard to judge any real improvement in offense.

A really bad Indiana team just put up some good numbers on MSU, so this could be a week where the Iowa O gets it going again.

I don’t expect you to watch every B1G team let alone Indiana, but they actually have a pretty solid offense.

Iowa has had problems coming off of bye weeks and travelling in-conference. See 2008 and 2011 results for examples. Iowa is 1-2 coming out of bye weeks on the road in-conference over the last four years. People expect the Hawks to come out sharp due to the time off, while history suggests they may have gathered a little rust during the off-week.

I really don't expect then to come out super sharp, except maybe in the run game. I don't see our passing game coming to life all of a sudden today (hope I'm wrong), just because of the bye week.
