Hawks really getting out hustled and out shot and out coached by BDogs thru 1st Q. Absolutely ️ raining 3 and getting loose balls.
Meanwhile, defense is horrible! OGrady has 14 of first 16 points and Melagni + McCabe think they need to start shooting 5 secs into every posession.

Expect Iowa to eek it out but only if they realize they have to defend top of key and feed the posts!

OK! Took a breath and letting it unfold.
D still pretty poor but think it's just gonna be who they are - enough to get by.
Drake averaging to the norm from outside (thank God), Iowa settling down on offense, Mallegni starting to get in groove. (She's fearless and gonna be huge impact player but has to see beyond herself)
All of sudden Hawks up 10 at half. Big sigh of relief!

Yes, she really is good at handling feeds both posting up and on the break. She does tire quickly and gets clumsy + slow to board + slow on D but, who cares! Feed the beast ... Get 20 and 8 from her and we'll deal with the rest.

I was expecting 1/2 those #s so I'm loving what I'm seeing so far.

Oy, Vey!!
Hannah really having a weak game today. Struggling to defend and just got stuffed and stolen in very unusual fashion! Led to lead down to 5.
Bounce back 4th quarter...

Drake shot and made 24 of 32 free throws to Iowa's11 made of 17. The three point percent moved up to 31% . I'm using the box score since I was unable to watch the game. There might have a little home cooking with game at Drake.

It was but seems to be all of women's bball - refs are very subpar between letting them play and calling everything.

I don't think I've ever seen a women's team play as quick in the half-court as Drake did the 1st quarter. Screen, cut, back out, move, cut, screen, back out, move...my goodness, it was like they were on skates, playing at video game speed! And then they nailed 5 of their first 6 treys! But by the 4th quarter, you could tell they were running out of gas and their legs were gone. It'll be interesting to see what they do in their conference.

Solid team win for Iowa. The players are finding their roles and it's coming along nicely. So much upside on this team with the freshman occasionally stepping up. Just didn't see that in the past (except for CC). Hanna seemed to be moving gingerly, possible something tweeked? Post play has been exceptional. Seems like Olson can get her shot at any time and the defense is just more tenacious. Lot to like.

We should damn near expect any post player that's 3-4 yrs in under Jan to have that type of leap in their game. Mostly she's playing aggressive, confident and her teammates are feeding her like she's starving. Getting early position inside and then just not messing around going straight up with it without bringing the ball down is huge. Monica C has to be smiling watching Addison play like this.

Yes. The challenge will be when facing teams with a 6'7" or taller Center who can block O'Grady's inside shot. Will she be able to adjust, step out, and consistently knock down 10 fters?

Agree. Competition will get tougher. Double teams will come faster from weak side too. She hit a couple of those the last 2 games I think but not many. I think she has 12-14 ft range when she's in rhythm. What I really like is Iowa's got multiple shooters that'll help keep the floor spread. So teams will have to pick their poison with us some.

O'Grady has been great, but I would rather see her at 25 minutes per game than the 33 she played vs. Drake. You can see her effectiveness wane as the fatigue builds...the most obvious manifestation being she simply falls down a lot as she gets tired, leading to unnecessary fouls and turnovers.

If Heiden can improve enough to provide a consistent, solid 10 minutes off the bench, that would be huge.
