This Has to be the Dumbest 2 Weeks in the History of the HawkeyeNation Board

I personally don't like Ferentz' style of play, but I will always root for the Hawks and I'll never hope they lose. Now crawl back in your dirty little hole Cyclown troll.

Can someone please explain the number in the lower right hand corner of posts? It seems that when idiots post something stupid there is a red negative number that seems to increase in absolute value as the stupidity of the post increases and when someone says something smart it seems to be in green with a number that increases as the thoughtfulness of the post increases. Is this similar to the old feature where I could quote a post and type "Like" or do I need to do something else here?

Thx,

OK4P

Thumbs Up.

Test.

Iowa scored 3 points in the second half against ISU. 3.........against Iowa State.....at home.....think about that.

Against Ball State they had 6 points in the first 55 minutes. Again...think about that....6 points...at home...against Ball State.

Yep, everything is fine in Hawkeye Football Land!

I just don't get this board.

Leading up to the Iowa State game, there were literally hundreds of posts talking about dumb Iowa State fans, how the game is Iowa State's "super bowl", and other comments downplaying the game and its importance, obviously ignoring the fact that Iowa State REALLY SHOULD HAVE beaten a very good Kansas State team the previous Saturday (which I would respectfully point out is a better team than Iowa right now and probably one of the best teams in the country, as evidenced by their near miss against Auburn).

After the loss to an obviously improved Iowa State team, this board turns into a dumpster fire. Everything from fire Ferentz to fire Barta. Boycott the games. Don't buy season tickets, etc. etc. After reading many of the posts, you would conclude that it was the biggest upset ever over the Hawks and one of the worst losses in Iowa history.

Iowa State has some talent, folks. They are gonna surprise some people. They are not a bad team. Sorry, but they are not.

Yes, it was a tough loss. Yes, we probably should have won the game. But jeez, it is only one loss. This team will improve. There is talent on the team. Ferentz has the respect of the players and is a good coach. The defense is playing well.

People need to calm down. There are 9 games to go.

This argument is awful.

People are fed up with Ferentz because we have been mediocre and losing to bad teams for the last ten years.

Look guys, it's Friday; we need to put the Iowa State debacle behind us and focus on the loss to Pitt tomorrow. Time to move on.

Spare me this particular flavor of bs, please. I have been a loyal kf supporter - probably even a militant one back during the 05-07 period. I was also very vocal that people really needed to calm the eff down during/after 2010. But I'm done now. What we are seeing on the field is a team that is consistently under prepared for what should be inferior competition. Iowa plays NUMEROUS games every season where we are the inferior team, so if we want to go anywhere as a program, we need to hit those inferior teams over the head with a big effin hammer...and that is consistently not happening.

I'm not calling for the end of the kf era (yet), but I am saying - for this fan - the days of "he's earned our unflinching trust" are over. He needs to show me he recognizes these systemic issues are beyond what can be smugly explained away as "that's football (snort)". Iowa has invested way too much in him as well as the program as a whole to be satisfied with what we are seeing.

I've definitely seen the board dumber for one. Number two, we still haven't figured out that we don't have a division one running back on our team...so we think we can run the ball. I'm telling you the offensive line has done better in the running game than the stats show, but none of these guys looks like they have a clue what a hole developing looks like, what a cut back lane looks like, and what bursting through a seam feels like. Thats' a huge issue.

Now, if you recognize that, I say you put Rudock in the shot gun and we pass the ball all day long...short is fine, medium is fine, and a few long balls thrown in. Just keep running receivers in and out and wear down the defense...then try to run the ball a bit when they decide they need to change up what they are doing defensively. The truth of the matter is, trying to run into defenses that have sold out to stop your running games is really, really stupid. Great ISU game plan KF and GD. Throw the freaking ball on every play...then you change the defense...and guess what...you also get better in the passing game. Hmmm...that could pay dividends down the road.

I'm predicting a close game Saturday at PITT. Wait, they are all close when Iowa is playing.

The dumpster fire of posts is a complete joke. Not one of you is even remotely familiar with the decision making process within the coaching staff or the athletic offices. None of you see practices. None of you watch disect film from the point of view of a position coach. None of you have any insight into injuries. None of you has any insight into disciplinary matters concerning the team. None of you has insight into academic difficulties that players may be having. None of you have any insight into family or girlfriend problems players might be having. None of you have any insight into team chemistry. The only person I've seen around here with a complete understanding of Iowa schemes is HawkeyeGamefilm - the rest of you are clueless. Lots of generalizations and assumptions based on how you personally feel about things....we know...you hate...fire everybody...big fan you is....same blah blah after every loss. Speak for yourself, there's 65,000 fans at every game cheering for the Hawks with no intention of quitting on them win or lose and another million or two watching on TV that will continue to watch. They may not all be happy when we lose but they support the Hawks! The hundred or so haters that come on here after every loss do not speak for nor represent the majority of Hawk fans. The vocal minority...wierd how you guys keep disappearing as soon as the Hawks win. The Hawks are 2-1 & soon to be 3-1 after we whoop on Pitty. Go Hawks!!!

I don't need to see any of that. I saw two teams this year that shouldn't ever sniff the jock-strap of any B1G team nearly embarrass the Hawks at home. Then I saw an ISU team that everyone picked to win two games this year beat Iowa after giving up two tunovers at home. This sucks; it happens nearly every year; time to move on.

It isn't the vocal minority anymore. It is Forbes, the Gazette, countless bloggers and every team's defensive coordinator that is saying this needs to stop.

This team has players that could make a difference within the scheme and allow the coaches to live to fight this battle again next year.

I will be completely honest - been on the outs for Kirk since 07. That year made one thing completely obvious to me - Kirk only performs at a high level when he gets lucky on the kids outside of the o-line he recruits that nobody else looked at. Quite frankly, he is terrible at evaluating talent outside of the offensive linemen.

He mistakes nepotism for loyalty. You think Brian Ferentz was the best center in the country when he played here? Sure, he did a nice job, but I wonder if he was not the coach's son if he'd be wearing the black and gold. You don't think the guy who routinely puts tackles in the top ten of the draft couldn't have recruited the best center in the country? You think KOK and Greg Davis were the best men for the job? You think benching Stanzi that extra year helped?

He's only achieved rankings commensurate with his salary 4 times in 16 years. Those were years where he had all-world players like Greenway, Greene, and Banks that nobody else knew anything about. Even a blind squirrel gets a nut now and then. When the lumps of coal remain lumps of coal instead of being diamonds in the rough, he fails. And he hasn't gotten lucky lately.

So he's a poor recruiter, and Iowa is a tough place to recruit. It isn't as though as it is at Western Michigan, Northwestern, Minnesota, UNI or ISU. And if the place is tough to recruit at you need to be a shark, or better at evaluating rough talent than everyone else. Kirk is neither. His skill players underperform B1G and national averages year after year.

Iowa pumps out unskilled talent to the NFL all the time - the team is practically the oline/dline farm team of the NFC north. But outside of Greene is there anyone in the wr/r corps that plays in the league? You would think with the rushing identity of the Hawks someone would have made it. Or the four ten win seasons that one of his QBs would be there.

The reason they aren't is because Kirk doesn't care about those positions. At all. Any production beyond 4 yards of the line on either side of the ball is ancillary and outside his world view. The offensive numbers throughout his career show that. The terrible pass defense in the down years shows that. If you run a 4.4 40, Kirk doesn't know what to do with you.

This team has talent. It doesn't use it. And that's just one to many years of accidental talent not being used and blaming it on execution for some of us to stomach.

Talk about a lot of hate! There's plenty of anger there also. See, I don't know you, but I got it right about your post. You see, sometimes broken is really, really obvious and you don't have to be an expert to know it. Look, if KF is doing such a fantastic job of having his finger on the pulse; why are we 15-17 within the B1G the past four seasons? You do agree and understand that KF gets paid almost $4 mil per to be responsible for everything you listed, right? He is also responsible for wins and losses. So, you can have your opinion, but come on...obvious is obvious.

In Davis' s defense, he tried to do that. Kirk put a stop to it last week.

Chosen, "Longtime listeners, first time callers" are posting. Why? Because they are as fed up with the staleness that our program has become. Some have been beating that drum for awhile now...was it always justified? Maybe not, but to them (and almost all on here are Hawk fans of some type) it was how they have felt. Now 1/4 into this season, and after years with all that we have seen (or actually, not seen) many more of us are now also fed up. This game, ISU or not, was a complete disaster. Maybe not everyone, as you Chosen, have maybe yet to feel the need for change, but there are certainly many, many more that have now jumped on that ship.

BirdsOf throws out "numbers" of so called "silent" fans that are content with the status quo. I say "bunk", I am seeing/hearing frustration out of pretty much any Hawk fan I know (via conversation, facebook, texts, media, etc). We're frustrated. Will I/we still root for the Hawks Saturday, and throughout the remainder of the season? Absolutely. Will we still go to Iowa City for the Home games? Dang right, money has been "invested" and the atmosphere is still top notch. Will we still cheer for the team? Damn right. To the end, and with as loud of a shrill whistle as I can muster.

Here's the thing Chosen, BirdsOf and any others that may not want or see the need for change, most fans DO like KF, and have been happy/content with him over his tenure. I am one of the many that feel we have been bettered because of him. Everyone has their personal thoughts, and everyone's timeframe of contentment is different. But guess what? The final word is, this is football, and the goal of football is to win...EVERY WEEK!

It's been stale for awhile (there's a reason Iowa "allowed" KOK to leave 3 years ago), and so far, as far as I can see and hear, what is being presented to us the fans each week has now become beyond questionable, beyond frustrating, and beyond being apathetic...it is continuing a downward trend-line that took many years to build up.

Most fans are and have been patient...but this mess we are witnessing is bringing out the silent majority (rollers and proles both)...and I'm not sure what or who or how it will get resolved, but I can assure you, something "different" has to be done, rather than to expect us to support the continuation of what we've seen become mediocre (at best) football.

So, either Vegas is stupid or Iowa consistently underperforms. Judging by the huge nice casinos, I am going with the fact that Iowa sucks.

Iowa 71.7% winning% when favored by 10+
rest of the B1G= 92.5%

It isn't just in our heads. We aren't just out to get Kurt. It is fact. He consistently underperforms.
while we know this to be true, to see the stats lined up like this is mind blowing. 39 games 10+ pt.favorites. 4th highest total and worst win %.

Vegas isn't stupid. What's stupid is that people keep wagering iowa wins by 10+ margins--

Watch what happens when Pitt hangs 35 on Iowa this weekend.

Watch the D shows up in amazing fashion holding Pitt to 14 while Iowa scores on kick & punt return then have a pick 6 and Iowa offense scores 10 on a short field for a final score of 31-14. Kirk will be smug thinking they figured something out but the details say different.

Betting against Iowa covering is one of the best bets out there IMO.

CH, with absolutely no sarcasm or b.s., do you write for a living? Regardless of your opinion, that was well written.

Thanx for props Arvada... Yes and no, but I can say with certainty that I may read too many message boards! (EDIT: took out dumb cheesy icon for a wink)

I guess the OP wasn't here when we spent a whole season begging to have true freshman Jake Ruddock put into the game to replace James Vandenberg.
