lIt only seemed that way. They hit quite a few mid-range jumpers, too.
lol, yeah it did seem like it. I just thought they would have killed us with 3's.

We pressed 1/2 the game. They got a ton of points out of this. We were in a scramble situation on defense a lot. Pace was a major reason the score was 54-37 at half. At that point we were out of the game. We were extending defense, giving up quick and easy shots routinely.
This is what happens when you are in scramble mode on the defensive end, guys are moving to help out defensively and are not blocking out or getting in a good position to rebound.
We weren't necessarily in 'scramble mode' from not getting back in time due to running. I would call it more 'constant disarray' mode tonight, even when they set up the offense.
Agree to a point with the first post I quoted here, in that our 3/4 court trap does get burnt WAY more than it produces turnovers, but 1) we were 'scrambling' tonight out of a 2-3 zone as well, so . . . and 2) I don't think that pertains much to 'pushing the pace' per se.
The problem was inside the paint... the key comment at the beginning of the game was "McCabe on Zeller is an interesting match-up". It is because Iowa does not have a true CENTER until next year.
This game would have been much different with some inside anger. If Indiana wanted to they could have slowed the pace down and beat us that way too! Iowa wanted to run and Indiana didn't mind... worked out well for both teams, Indiana is just better at it right now because of Zeller.
I didn't see anything surprising in this game that I didn't see coming prior to the start.
Until we start defending and rebounding, it won't really matter what our offensive game plan is.
Fran is going to run his kind of game...regardless who we go against.
Sort of like Hooker at Fredricksburg or Lee at Gettysburg. Keep running your soldiers against the opposition who has the advantage of the high ground, wave after wave until you have a disaster.
I know, it's a crazy Civil War reference but I believe it somewhat fits.
Are we really trying to run against a team that is clearly deeper and more athletic? Cartwright is a turnover machine when we play like this. This is insane.
i was thinking hamburger hill hill#937 at ap bia mountain in vietnam in may 1969. just like this year team facing uphill battle.

Rebounding is the single biggest issue on this team. If they find some rebounders next year, they will win games like yesterday. Reggie Evans where are you?
