This Game Brings This State Together

I know I don't get to chose. And Iowa fans on a message board will say Nebraska but they will be lying. When they leave their computer. Go out to the real world and are dealing with real life people it will not be Nebraska. They know more ISU fans and want to beat them more so they don't have to hear the trash talk after a loss

If you are a mind reader and know when thousands of people are lying...I can't compete with that.

I thought that this rivalry would be dead and no one would want it but ive got to tell ya, i think the state of iowa loves it. Even though Iowa dominates the series, just the sales alone for venders and bars. Restaurants and college towns is stupendous.

Good luck to both teams today and everyone drive safe to and from the game.

First thanks for the well wishes.

You are absolutely right about this game being big for the state and all involved. ISU fans get excited at the prospect of possibly knocking Iowa off. Iowa fans get nervous at the possiblility and excited at the prospect of possibly beating them down. Most on both sides are friendly and gracious but some not so much.

You also hit the nail on the head when you said that this game generates revenue. Iowa football is a money maker anyway but I'm sure the Ia vs ISU game gererates a little more cash flow than most ia or ISU games.

It is not a big game on a national scale and honestly even though all Iowa fans know that all B10 games are more important, ISU under Dan McCarney injected some rivalry to this game and it has become pretty big since then. Let no Iowa fan tell you any different.

During most of the Hayden Fry years there was not much to this rivalry. Most games weren't even close but there was still some excitment building up to the game.

I think a lot of it is that it's an instate opponent. In such a small population state to have another BCS school is unique and that fuels the rivalry. Some of it is that we all live with, know and even have family members who are ISU students/grads/fans.

I'm sure some of it is that this week is the first week of meaningfull BSC football.

In any case it is a fun game and there is excitment surrounding this game on both sides.

Now for the record, this game will pale in comparrison to the Ia Nebby games each year. In the heart of iowa fans that is a rivalry that we have wanted since we became relevant back in the Hayden days.

As excited as our fans get for the ISU game, getting ready for the big boys (OSU, UM, PSU, Bowl opponents is much bigger.

Still for the entire state of iowa I hope the Iowa / ISU doesn't go away, it should always have a place.

Iowa has been losing overall in this series since 1998...so, of COURSE they don't want to consider this their biggest rivalry. Losing in that way has made them want out...its the old, "if you can't beat 'em, don't play 'em" syndrome. Which is fine...lets just call it what it is.

The real truth is, Iowa fans want DESPERATELY to win this game every year...and they are devastated when they lose. I have a ton of close friends who are Hawkeyes...and it just kills 'em when ISU loses and they pine for their chance at revenge the following year. So they definitely "protesteth to much" when they try to pretend this isn't a rivalry...they're actions speak FAR louder than a few disingenuous words on a message board.

I love Hawkeye football and KF's program. I wish them nothing but success 364 days a year....but don't believe 'em for a second when they try to downplay what this game means to them today. They are on the edge of their seat every second that this game is in doubt...it means a ton to 'em. No less than it means to ISU fans...and no more.

Well why would Iowa want to play this game. They are picked to win just about EVERY time and it's ISU's superbowl, so what does Iowa have to gain??? NOTHING! I love how clown fans refer to who has won more in the last 12 years.....take away 1998-2000 when Iowa was clearly rebuilding and what do you have then? Horrible arguments today gentlemen.

ISU fans say that they care more about the Nebraska game this year than the Iowa game. They are lying

Iowa fans are now saying the same thing. They are lying.

You don't want to give your in state rival any credit or don't want them to know that you truly do care about beating them. But like I said when you work with ISU fans, have family/friends that are ISU fans. You want to beat them more than Nebraska when you really don't know to many Nebraska fans that will give you a hard time when they beat you

uh, no. Sorry, but when you're completely wrong, don't draw attention to yourself.

I was at the 2002 game when Iowa lost to ISU and Seneca. Of course, it was devastating, because that was the only game Iowa lost that year (prior to the Orange Bowl).

However, I would MUCH, MUCH rather beat a Nebby, Wisky, or OSU every year and yes, lose to ISU each time. For me (granted I no longer live in Iowa), that's an easy choice.

Don't kid yourself. The Nebby rivalry will instantly eclipse the ISU game for Iowa fans.

I feel like I know a heck of a lot of lifelong Iowa fans, and as a 20 year season ticket holder, I can say that I just want to get by the Iowa State game. It's a station, not the destination on the journey.

Dear Department of Statistical Incompleteness,

I think Iowa is ahead in the overall series something like 37-19, and that the Clowns haven't scored a touchdown in a couple of years.

Just trying to give the Mesahawkeyeclown a little bit more of a "fair and balanced" viewpoint.

PS--Iowa is nearly dead even in its series with Wisconsin, and both have been competing for new year's bowls and conference championships on a yearly basis.

To me, that's an up to date and relevant rivalry.

carry on.
